Full PM-box? Change here!

Hmm... I would think that unit attrition would be better implemented if units lost say...

1/4th health each turn spent in a desert square (just like in real life- people dying in the desert)
1/8th in the jungle
1/4th in the arctic
1/4th in the swamp

therefore; it would better simulate how armies had trouble moving across the African and S. American continents as well as s. east asia... and it could add a new dimension- guerillas could not lose points; therefore, their receeding in the face of attacks could help them and hinder their foes!

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I think it's too away from reality and am coming back to the idea of having a health bar (even better: number of troops, as all other games) and quality bar (units are starving, quality goes down).

Got spare money?

Health bar is what they had in Civ II- it's just like reality- health represents the number of men in a unit? I don't see what your problem is?

The problems with actual Civ3 health bars is that they include also quality so there aren't a number of any sort. And the bar heals back. In fact, you can simply have more men by forming new men, not by only staying idle a while. Like most other games.

Well, in the way that I suggested- to rest in those areas would be counterintuitive- you would never move.. every thime you rested you would regain (reinforcements arriving)

perhaps the reinforcement/resting regeneration could be based upon distance from your borders?

5 squares in ancient days = full regen in 4 turns
5 squares in modern = full regen in 1 turn
5 squares with medicine = no penalties

hi ,

, even with modern day medicine people get wounded , roadaccidents , etc , ..... we should keep a small toll even with medicine , ....

and units should heal faster in a city with barracks and a hospital , ....

have a nice day

Why, is the jungle on the other's territory worst than the jungle on yours?? The only difference between armies on within your border and out of your border is that in the enemiy's territory it will feed on people's economy/food (pillage or only taking the food). It was like this even during Napoleon.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

What purpose does unit attrition serve? If you want to make warmongering harder, increase the defense values of units and increase support costs outside national borders.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

Unit attrition will delay exploration of hostile terrains, and deter troop movement through such terrain.

You would have less attrition in your own jungles because you could recruit the commoners who lived in the jungles to join your army.

Yes! Just like real life! And that's the point.

I guess there would be more strategy if you had to look where you pass, trying to surprise other... BUT MAINLY it would also mean that when you're on other's territory, you live like armies were doing: pillage or "asking" food. So it becomes a strategy.

hi ,

yep , thats what we need , ....

in the real world cars are stuck in the mud , the engine overheats , a flat tire , ... no fuel , wrong fuel , ... etc , ...

there should a lets say five percent chance that that happens in the jungle , mountains , hills , ... , we need swamps also (!)

a train going true mountains moves slow , so units moving true mountains with railroads should loose movement points , ....

it really cant be that hard to put it in , ....

Firaxis , .....

; DarkCloud , maybe you could write a nice letter to them , ....

have a nice day

panag, I understand your point even if it's put in a silly way but here:

Can we say "we shouldn't lose battles because it's not fun"? What makes the difference between a "not fun event" that makes the game better and another that doesn't? I believe that if BALANCED and put without complicating something when you can do it simpler (which depends on which people the game's for), any event that enriches the "game reality", isn't something random destroying the game and that is negative for both sides (not unbalancing) will have good gameplay consequences (if it ads more depth).

Tired of ads?

Yes, this would be more balanced and add more depth! Trifna seems to understand this.

and by the way, I HAVE emailed them before; although not about this.

But I don't really care any more- firaxis is nothing more than infogreed's b**** now. They have no inventiveness when Sid isn't at the helm of game design and produce a homogenized trashy utilitarianist version of a game instead of a fun exciting multipurpose interesting game that never ceases to amaze (civ II)
