	Mystery solved! The culprit: Classmates.com! Suffering from ads?

I'd previously mentioned that apolyton often wouldn't load from work/school -- it would load from time to time (like right now, f'rinstance), but every now and then it would just stop loading completely, and my entire connection to the internet would crap out -- nothing would load anymore.

The culprit, I've discovered, is the Classmates.com popup ad. Apolyton loads fine with the rest of the popup ads (y'know, like that "You are this site's 10,000,000th visitor, click on the porn link to claim your prize" popup), but as soon as the Classmates popup loads my browser is effectively killed until I log off of my workstation and log back on.

Is there some kind of screwy script that is being run when the Classmates popup loads that isn't being run with any other popups? What the dillio?

If I had admin priviledges to the university's server(s) then none of this would be a problem -- I'd just install a popup blocker or something. However, I'm stuck using Netscape Version Somethingoranother for the immediate future, sans Proxomitron.

It looks awful anyway. I don't know what version of Netscape they're using, but I suspect that it was custom made for Unix servers for maximum crappiness output.

Maybe change your style to a non-popup style (if Poly has such a thing) or get really good at killing popups before they can load (and thus ran their badly written script which kills your browser).

lionburger, I don't know if this will work at your school, but at my old school, we had a way to be able to install and run programs even though we weren't allowed to. After we had downloaded the file, for example Opera, we went to a choice in the Start Menu called something like "Open a new Office Document", chose "all files" as filetype, and found the installer. When the program was installed, all we had to do to start the program, was to do the same with the programme file.:P Try that!

I turned off style sheets and Java, and it's fixed the problem. The forum doesn't look appreciably worse than it did before -- if anything, it looks better. (It stopped printing all text in 6-point font, f'rinstance.)

Yeah, these dodgy popups are a bit too much...who knows what crap they are plastering on our systems. Markos has probably used these popups to put a trojan on my computer and uses my own webcam to view me in the nude without my knowledge

yeah... and be careful

if you don't do anything against those popups, as next the neighbors cat will scratch up that nice couch of yours. after that, you're sister will get involuntarily pregnant and will have the unexplainable urge to call the twins markos and dan.

Instead of downloading and installing mozilla or opera, just download CookieCop 2 from pcmag (it's not even 500K I think), and let it block them for ye, and still get to use IE6.

BTW: Classmates.com is a joke. Why should I pay to send someone an e-mail from there?
