the UN is useless. utterly useless. reforms needed to salvage it would be time consuming and possibly shut down.

If America goes against the UN and attacks Iraq, then it deserves to be kicked out. Sad days, indeed.

Withdrawing from an organization dedicated to diplomatic solutions would be retarded. But hey, its a great way to make the rest of the world hate us even more!

The UN is the underlying basis for things such as the NPT, the WTO, the WHO, the IMF, the convention of biological and chemical weapons,so forth and so on. If the US wants to leave the UN, then it can begin to kiss all those things goodbye. Anyone here who wants a world free of all those things, go ahead and ask for the US to leave the UN.

After all, who needs well regulated trade, a halt to proliferation of WMD, and international heath innitiatives? What did they ever get us?

Bush is catching hell from peple aboutt Iraq, for instance.
If we're going to catch hell, I'm thinking maybe it should be for things we actually do, rather than taking blame for what was supposed to be a collective effort.

People like Chegitz, who are internal problems, are really not that much of a problem.
I was curious though about how the US view would compare with non-USA views.

I'm beginning to think out, but have not voted yet.

hELLO? Are you Americans on planet earth?

If China wanted to invade Taiwan do you think it would be okay for them to do that if they withdrew from the UN?

You should be proud of the UN. Its an institution the US set up and it has worked very well. Most of the criticism of the UN is just pig ignorance from people who have no idea what the UN does - eradicated small pox from the planet for one thing, keeps refugees alive for another. The UN Security Council is only a very small part of what the UN system is or does.

You made an umpire and when you don't like the umpire's decision you leave? Grow up.

The UN system isn't perfect but if we lose the UN we're back to the law of the jungle that gave the world WWI and WWII. I can't see how that could be in anyone's interests.

I understand that a lot of people (Americans, mostly) are unhappy with the bureaucratic approach of the U.N., but I think you guys leaving would be a bad scene.

If you don't like how it works, try and change it. Alot of people don't like that Bush won the election, but that doesn't mean they give up on American democracy.

Like most ordinary Americans, what you know about international affairs could be written on the back of a postage stamp. I believe the word is "squat".

If nukes stop wars, then every state and every group should have nukes, NO? After all, nukes equal peace.....

AH: if Americans are utterly ignorant of so many things the UN does it is beacue they live so far away from the areas in which the great difference is made. It would be nice for the WHO to collapse though, then in a few decades, some god-awefull disease comes to life somewehre, someone with it travels to the US and elsewhere and then Bamm, new pandemic kills millions...maybe then these spolied little brats calling for the end of the UN will get to see the reality of the wolrd and that there are copnsequences to petulence and acting like a child.

Thankfully though, such abjectly moronic notions will always fail: after all, as Che would say, the government is run by corporate business interests, and most rich business men know how much a stable world means to their pocket book.
