Nope, my navy says no oil for you! Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Well, now this game is ending up to be much fun. As you can see in the photo below, my Destroyer is preventing Babylon from getting its oil. If I see a road going up there, I bombard. This I will say is going on all along the Babylon coasts. I have dominated the ocean for once and I am glad I did. They have been attacking my ships and trying to sink them but their problem is they are using Ironclads against my Destroyers. Now I am not allowing them to get the oil they need to build destroyers and I signed a trade embargo against them so they can't get oil overseas.

I am doing the same to their Iron deposits and other resources which are near the coastal areas (good for me) so I can have a field day. Now in like 6 more turns I will be able to build Aircraft Carriers. Then it will truely be all over with for Babylon. When I get at least two carriers off their coasts loaded with planes, I am going to bomb them in the mud. As long as I prevent them from getting oil they will be in big trouble. I will use my naval and air and just bombard them to plains. Then I will be able to bust most of their cities down very low pop levels. With the carriers, I can even tear up their inland cities too. Then in the end I imagine I will be in first place as their score will start to rapidly drop.

Full PM-box? Change here!

I'd rather have a transport and 8 tanks than 8 destroyers. Once I capture a city and rush an airport it's all over, no matter how many resources they have.

Actually, just make sure a worker is on one of those transports and you don't have to spend the money rushing an airport. The worker builds an airfield instantly on any terrain.

Oh no sir, Navy is the thing on this map! Let me tell you it is winning the game for me. My navy is keeping all enemy transports from landing anything on my land. I don't have to worry about much at all. Right now my navy is composed of around 10 Destroyers. Which is enough to practically block the main waterways from Babylon enroute to my continent. Unfortunately a few of my Destroyers did get sunk, so I had about 12 or 13 at one point. Too bad I don't have the tech for Battleships because those my friend would be a nightmare! I mean a total nightmare. But I will soon have something much better then Battleships...the Aircraft Carrier with a full loadout of aircraft

I am going to take a picture of my 2 or 3 brand new beautiful aircraft carriers when they role off the docks I imagine they will be a nice site Each will have a full load of bombers. Once complete they will set route northeast to the Babylon continent along with several Destroyers. Once in position I will let the air sorties begin, turn after turn after turn. Bomb after bomb, until those Babylon cities and improvements are down to nothing. I won't need to worry about enemy fighters, Babylon can't get any oil so they can't built them. Babylon just can't get oil and I don't even want any other nation to sell them oil! If they do they will be punished as well. So Greece and any other nation better think twice about selling resources to my major enemy. Right now almost every country is on my side and allied with me against Babylon so I have many friends.

Hey isn't it nice I am actually winning a game for a change? My last three posts were about games I was losing. Feels good to actually maybe win this game for a change I still may not win but I am in 2nd place (just under Babylon) and if I am able to bust down Babylon with the carriers like I plan, I think I will win. I doubt I will sign a peace treaty with them. Not right now anyway.

Oh another thing...trust me I don't even want to think about fighting Babylon on the land. They would kill me! So right now I will stay with naval and air attacks. Then when they are down to nearly nothing, I can land a few infantry and start some occupying. Won't be much left other then rubble and debris after all the air and naval bombardment. But still it will be worth occupying anyway. At last poor me still don't have PtW yet

the AI also loves to bombard your resource squares, let's hope Babylon is to far away from your continent to do the same if they manage to get some oil and get bombers.

I am currently playing on a small game and I am at war with every civ except one, all within bombing range of about 50% pof my empire and they are bombing the hell out of me. Fortunately my workers are doing a good job of keeping me in the game and I have finally discovered Rocketry so my new Jet Fighters are taking a toll out of their bombers.

Having a decent navy can be a very good tool. Just ask the brits. Or Teddy Roosevelt. "Speak softly & carry a big stick"

dave: Capture a city? Personally, I raze a city and use one of the workers to make an air field ^^

Meanwhile the rest of the workers I get build other military improvements like radar tower. It is not easy for the AI to take care of that

Sure the AI does it all the time thats where I learned it from Hehe. Anyway, I lost my previous game from 3-4 AI carriers, battleships and destroyers in addition to several land based planes. Oh yeah, I was powerful on the land too, I had a strong army in that game. But I had a weak navy and no airforce at all and it was a rather water heavy map. I lost 2 or 3 loaded transports even while escorted. I could not get my ground forces on their land for the life of me. So thats why in my current game I said to myself I am going to build a powerful navy this time. That is what I did and all of the narrow penisulas on my current map give me an advantage. So I could have not had a better map for naval power. As long as I can keep Babylon from oil I will dominate. Its just keeping them that way too that will be part of the challenge.

I am also a big navy fan. And I learned the resource-bombing from the AI too. I think this is the first Civ game that I've actually learned something from the AI.

Well, this game had just come to an end. Everything bascially worked as planned. I managed to keep Babylong from oil. I had 5 carriers total but ended up at war with Rome so I had to send 2 carriers out to Rome's sea which gave me 3 left over to send to Babylon. I bombed everything in site with my carrier planes. I had about 6 destroyers remaining and they continued bombarding the Babylon coasts. The Babylon continent was reduced to plains and nearly everyone of there cities were all the way down to pop levels of 1-3! I had destroyed numerous city and land improvements. There was nearly nothing left to Babylon at all after 15-20 turns. Finally I marched the troops in around all of the rubble and debris and took over city after city. I continued to bomb their land units which attempted to attack my infantry. In the end I owned about 90% of their continent. So I ended up with a retired win, not the best kind of win but still a win I guess. Really it was my 5 carriers that won the game for me. They had dished out an incredible amount of damage in 15 turns of constant bombing. Now that this game is over, I will be starting a new one soon. Oh I need to add this was basic CIV3 so I never edited anything so the carriers had their usually 4 capacity and I was not using lethal bombardment. I can only imagine what would have happened if I would have edited it!

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Your war stories are always something great to read. It says a lot without needing to write much, making the reading pleasurable. It's always nice to read about tactics & strategies, while giving a story context as well. There should be a Story Thread.

I'm not counting the threads which have stories of peasants and kings and so on the circulate on the other forum, but examples such PrinceBimz told. Anyone knows if there's a thread in the Story Forum with that kind of story?

Glad you enjoy reading it I have a new story for just about every game of CIV3 I play. I always try different things in my games, some work and some don't. I am sometimes sitting down eating or doing whatever and I will be thinking about a strategy in CIV3. I would be thinking... "I wonder if that would work, or I wonder what would happen if I tried that." Alot of times its things that I never hear anyone talk about which leads me wondering how it would work of if it would. There have been many times where alot of things in the game come up requiring alot of decisions then I will save it. Then I will think about it for a while and sometimes post here about the situation to see what others think about it. After I give it some thought and I am ready to go with it, I will load up the game and go for it. At last I bet many people who play CIV3 will have a story to tell during it and when it is over.
