	Crash on entering Modern age? Tired of ads?

Hi, I just entered modern age for the first time since I installed PTW... and as soon as the "it appears we have entered a new age.... great lets play the game" I get a message saying "Missing file ... Missing Entry in "GameRes\text\PediaIcons.txt"; ANIMNAME_PRTO_Leader .... The game will now exit" and then closes. I just reinstalled PTW and have not updated it because the update i got off of civ3.com was a false update... give you version 2.xx.xx and a stupid message on the bottom of the title screen... so maybe thats the problem. Other than that the game works fine. If this is related to needing the game update can anyone tell me a quick fix I can do to fix this particular problem or what could be causing it? Thanks.

Hm, I'm afraid you'll have to reinstall both Civ3 and PTW...

lol, could you tell me why and whats wrong? Its almost freshly installed. I've only played 1 game previous to this and won in industrial age.

Could you please tell me why?

oic... there is no gameres\text\pediaicons.txt

it is text\pediaicons.txt

strange, why would the game look in a different location. And all of a sudden too.

and the entry ANIMNAME_PRTO_Leader is there too :P

This could be the source of your problem; that's why I suggested a full reinstall. But maybe other people here on the boards could help you.

hi ,

turn off security software , try to reload the autosave games , try reinstall , if all of that failes , ....

uninstall civ and PTW , look manually for files like infogrames , civ , civilization , etc , ..... delete them , reboot , ( all of this with security software off (!) ) reinstall , get patch and play , ....

ok those are good ideas... after the wrong patch.. i completely uninstalled PTW but maybe that didnt do the trick... i'll completely remove it (without security software on) and then completely reinstall... perhaps the PTW update to 1.14f would help too... but my game seems to think the cd is not inserted after upgrading :S... well when i had the game installed last... the only patch i have found for PTW is the wrong patch so I don't know where to find the patch anyways... i tried looking for a way to bypass the cd check... my comp is 3 years old so i think its my crappy no-name drive... although i'm probably going to get flamed for even touching on a subject. Well i thought it was worth a shot because its either that or no patched game

I'll post back after completely reinstalling... i have homework to do first :P

nope completely reinstalling doesn't change anything...still same error... right after... we have entered a new age...

i'll try the update... see if i can find some way to be able to get it to work

I tried moving the PediaIcons.txt file to what it said the directory where it said it should be... and that made all the text all messed up... like Techs were researched in number of cities to go... etc

hi ,

did you look manually for all files left after the uninstall , files with names like civ , civilization , infogrames , etc , ......

those need to be deleted as well before you do a reinstall , ..... and after a reboot (!)

I looked in the registry... and i deleted everything civ-like there... i deleted the entire civ3 folder after uninstall... i didn't reboot though... so you think i should do a search on my HD for files matching *civ*.* ? and get rid of them all? and then reboot and then reinstall?

do first the official uninstall , then go and look for files that are civ related , infogrames , firaxis , etc , ..... delete them all after a manual search , reboot , turn all security programs off (!) , reinstall , get patch , reboot and play

dont forget to delete zip files and mod files , etc , .....
