How can I get a graphics card fan re-aligned? Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The fan on my Radeon graphics card is making an annoying buzzing sound, I assume because it's unstable or mis-aligned or something. Anybody know how to monkey with these things? Is it possible for me to re-align it on my own, or should I find some kind of pro to do it? What kind of pro?

Tired of ads?

Works for me. I wasn't sure if they were standard parts or not. (I guess I don't see why they wouldn't be.)

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

If you feel like diddiling with it, you should proably clean it out (wip it down with kleenex) and maybe file down the blades a bit. One of them is probably rubbing against the casing.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

The fan casing itself is only screwed in place, right?

The only work you'll have to do in that case is resoldering the connections (carefully).

Some graphics cards have proprietary fans. It's not impossible to replace them, it's just a lot of fun.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Just try putting the old box fan by your computer, it works for me.

Wht, they're weird-sized or take weird voltages?

There ought to be people out there selling knock-offs for a company as big as Radeon.

Both. I think ThermalTake makes video card fans that are pretty good. The thing to remember is they're not perfect sized, they're usually a little too large, but they still work.

Suffering from ads?

My method is applying oil to the bearing. This way I've managed to resurrect fans for few additional years of service. They will eventually fail completely though.

But I'm not going to explain the procedure, as Dan has an excellent tutorial in the matter.
Thank you google.
