B-25 is a "Mitchell" NOT a "Liberator" Suffering from ads?

B-24s were called Liberators, and they don't look anything like B-25s. B-24s were "heavy" bombers, B-25s were "medium" bombers.

( Dunno if this has already been brought up, tried searching the forums for it but the search function was spectacularly unhelpful :/ )

Actually, during WWII there were several different bombers built, and many variations of each to fill different roles. B-17, B-18, B-23, B-24, B-25, B-26, B-29 were used, I assume the ones in between were designs that were scrapped. The designation was assigned by the War Department and there were several manufacturers.

If I were to pick one to represent the class in RoN however, I would probably have gone with the B-17, as it was the workhorse of the European theater.

The B-24 would run a close second though, as it was flown in every theater thanks to it's huge range, it could fly very long missions in the island hopping campaign, and was the bomber used in the famous raid on Ploesti.

The B-25 was also used in every theater, was used in the Doolittle raid where it was flown off an aircraft carrier, but hey, it was only a medium bomber, and the heavies did most of the work

Somebody stop me my dad flew B-24s in the pacific in WW2 so as I kid I learned way too much about them..

Increase Your PM Length

really, then i guess they were really desparate for bombers if they need all the diffrent planes

usually, only one out of every 5 or 6 planes make it to the lines, am i right?

Technology evolved pretty fast in WW2. The B-17, B-18, B-24, and B-29 represented 4 generations in less than 10 years. Pretty impressive considering the complexity of the machinery at that time.. compare the B-10 built in the mid 30s with the B-29 in the early 40s, amazing progress..
