	Recommend Boshko Random/Obscure/Bizarre Dance Music Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

After Boshko and friends complained at great length about how all parties at Wes seem to play the same shitty hip hop and techno I decided to do something about it. So with the help of all the people I know with good music collections I'm trying to get a couple hour-long party mix of dance music together which covers pretty much every dance music genre out there and has as much random/obscure/bizarre music as possible.
So I've got bhangra, rai, Swedish pop, Russian techno, lots of ska, west african pop, a bit of latin music, bizarre techno mixes (including techno versions of the sesame street rubber ducky song sung in german and the gummi bear theme song sung in swedish) etc. etc.

But I've got a good number of holes that need filling. I've got absolutely nothing Asian except for lots of Indian music and a techno mix of Tuvan throat singing and I'd really like some Brazilian music. But generally any strange non-english language dance music would be welcome. Also since I don't want this to be just international stuff any American stuff that's obscure or isn't played much any more (one evil friend is going to inflict swing and 20's harmonica music on me ). And might as well have a bit of line dancing music while I'm at it.

And please no hip hop unless its in Polish or something

There's some really great new-wave dance music - in particular Duran Duran's "Notorious".

You don't seem to have any gabber yet, which basically is hardcore techno which was very popular here in the mid-90s. Although the lyrics are rather unimportant, most of it was still in English although there definitely are songs in Dutch as well. I'll try to dig up some titles, I don't know if kazaa can find them but that's your problem I guess. Don't pay any attention whatsoever to the lyrics BTW, gabber is probably the most un-intellectual music style in existence.

MC Rage - **** Macarena (a macarena parody)
Party Animals - Sarin
Technohead - I want to be a hippie

All of these except Sarin were (small) hits over here, so they're somewhat poppy with respect to the more extreme stuff. I can't recommend any particular harder stuff, but I'll give you some names of well-known dj's, so you can check them out yourself:

I've got some French pop if you're interested.

I've become addicted to TaTu, the faux lesbian russian pop band.

Moxy Fruvous is a Canadian folkpop band that has some...interesting songs about entropy, mitosis, and the king of spain.

Hmmm... We're talking stuff that's readily available on MP3, right?Okay.

To begin with, have you got any Dancehall? I'm sure you've heard Sean Paul's "Gimme The Light", but try Bounty Killer's "Sufferah" or Tanto Metro and Devonte's "Give it to Her" for other high-profile, good songs.

How about a bit of Soca? Anything by Iwer George should be ideal ("Hot up the Place", "Gimme a Bligh"), and I really like recent Alison Hinds material, especially "Wave wid Me" which might be a bit too Dancehally.

Chutney is quite fun too, if you like global crossover stuff (it's Trinidadian Indian music). Recommended hits include "Indian Girl" by Miss TC and "Sting She" by Ricky Jai.

If you can find some good Zouk that'd be a good compliment as well. Unfortunately this is one scene I'm not really following at the mo, mainly 'cause everything has to be imported from France. Still, check through the entries on a compilation like this and you might find something.

Now, what I believe is essential for a compilation is a bit of Carioca Funk, the current popular music from Brazil which is basically of a mixture of Hardcore Techno, Miami Bass and Samba. Bonde do Tigrão is a good bet for a start, "Cerol Na Mão" is a big enough hit to turn up on KaZaA I reckon. A good CD's worth of material you can search off is here.

Finally, if you do change your mind and want some more insane hip-hop I say go to Mzibo.net and download some Bongo Flava Swahili Rap. Kalamashaka's "Fanya Mambo" and Cool James's african-flavoured "Sina Makosa" are my personal favs.

Good, insane cross-over covers I'd recommend: "Do-Re-Mi" by The Mighty Vikings (Trad-Calypso Metal version of the Sound of Music "classic", brilliant) and the self-explanatory british Reggae obscurity "Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1" by The Neasden Connection.

I'm amazed by the popularity of "Mundian to bach ke". We're talking about an Indian song here, one I hear at least three or four times every Friday night. That hasn't been seen before, I suppose... but I guess it's had its peak by now.

If you're interested in obscure music, try finding some house. This genre is basically the granddaddy of all techno and got started in the 80s.

I recently found a house remix of the country song "Cotton Eye Joe." You might try it, it's definitely bizarre. If you've ever heard a techno song with sampled violins, you know what I'm talking about.
