	Sound Problem Enter the AD-FREE zone

I have a problem with the sound. In the game 75% of the voices are distorted or crackling. I can barely understand them. The music and other sounds are fine. This isn't normal is it? I have the biggest installation. I am sure I have a crappy soundcard but this doesn't happen with other games. Is there anything I can do?

Just a theory, no idea if it's correct. But the voices are mp3 files, and the rest of the sounds are wav files. Wav files tend to need less cpu power to play, so maybe that's your problem? Tried playing mp3's while having a lot of other things running in the background? Maybe you've got a computer that's not powerful enough? Or maybe it's the soundcard.. hard to tell when not know what equipment you've got.

I have a p3 533 128ram voodoo 4500 my soundcard is a combo modem/soundcard.
I guess I should replace with the soundblaster live x-gamer I have just sitting right here. I first have to get a new modem cause I think I have to disable the combo card. Thanks for the info.

Then it's probably that combo card of yours. Try installing the soundblaster. You shouldn't have to disable the other card. Well, depends on how good/bad it is I guess. But you should be able to have more than one sound card so it should be ok.

If it isn't, well, then you might want to look for a new modem.

Try this:

in Alpha centauri.ini

ds3d=0 (disables direct sound 3D enhancements- helps if drivers not fully compatible)

eax=0 (disables environmental audio used amongst others on the SB live series)
