The single line is being excised, but frankly, this is the first I've heard of it. How about the rest of the review?

Yeah, I was kind of surprised about that as well - especially since it's in the second paragraph of the review. Wacky.
Magnate civs are still in there. Perhaps the part about Magnates not having to be 'beaten down' is out, but they're still there.
It's not 'virtually' impossible to get all the techs through research, it's 'totally' impossible - the techs you get to research are randomly chosen from the beginning of the game, and you will not get 100% of them. You'll have to steal or trade for 'em.
It's a very clear review with excellent presentation of the important points about the game. Nicely written, good selection of SS, well organized and easy to read.

Okay, ENOUGH - it's being removed. Discuss the other parts of the review.

JonahFalcon, I'm suprised you let the cat out of the bag. I'm not one to care about it but some people who read that paragraph about the Ithkul will be disappointed.
Other than that the review is concise and includes the major portions of the game. I'll let you know how well you covered it after I have it in my hands.

Again, that line was a mistake. (shrug) Just read below the advertisement. I'm still waiting for the guys at UGO to correct it.
However, no memo was ever sent to me regarding this - not when the review copies were sent, not yesterday. Frankly, it's not much of a spoiler, since everyone in the newsgroups knew the origins already, especially since the MOO3 trailer gives it away.

Sorry JonahFalcon, I read the review and posted without refreshing to see that the Ithkul issue was covered.

I thought you COULDN"T turn viceroy AI's off; that 's what other reviews have said. What's the verdict?

That's been clarified -they will always manage your DEAs and FLUs automatically, but you can turn them off for other things apparently.

It hasn't been covered yet. Am still trying to get UGO.com to fix it.
BY THE WAY... the strategy guide has been out for four months, and already gives it away (Page 14). It's NOT NEWS.

There is a button on each planet screen to turn the viceroys decisions off. (AI off) I never turn the planetary AI off, though.
The spoiler in the third paragraph has been removed, so if you fear spoilers, you can safely read the entire review.
Did anyone read the interview yet? It tells what you might expect in the inevitable patch, that there may be an expansion, and the possibility of either Master of Magic II or Conquest of the New World II...

Yes, well some of us had managed to NOT buy the strat guide, NOT read "Spoiler" posts, and NOT read teh Gamespot preview that gave it away then. Too bad for us now....
And you might want to go tell Rantz how this stuff is "NOT NEWS". He still wants to keep it under wraps.

I thought conquest of the new world was like a mega-pack of games and stuff - or am I thinking of something else? I swear I have this disk that has colonization, pirates, and a couple other games on it...
It was a very cool interview, like I said before. I liked how he emphasized that the hardest thing was cutting the features that they didn't need. I can only imagine...

Conquest of the New World Deluxe Edition has been included in many bundle packs, but I bought it when it first came out. It was a great game - extremely fun. It was the advanced 3D version of Seven Cities of Gold.
(sigh) Just realized I never mentioned a key part of the game - development plans. Ah well... I guess I stressed the Big Picture angle enough for people -- and there's a screenshot of the development plans screen.

I'm a bit disappointed that you gave in to this silly hystery and censored your review. I think it compromises your independence and integrity as a reviewer to give in to the wishes of the people you are supposed to criticize.
I liked how you explained the workings of mechanisms of DEA and research, I begin to understand how they work now. I wish there was more on combat, though -- space, and especially ground combat are the most exciting parts. What tactics can be employed?
And what is that about an expansion? Not very promising if the game feels like lacking an expansion right out of the box.

There's no "go ahead" word yet on an expansion - that's IG's decision. However, they're definitely working on a patch - no fixes that I know of, but a ton of AI tweaks and other tweaks. Basically the patch is an improvement patch, not a fix patch.

Well, the BEST way to describe DEAs is that they are now the "buildings", and what used to be buildings in MOO2 now augment or supplement the DEAs and/or regions.
Incidentally, Hydroponic Farms was a bad example - a viceroy will build a Farm in any region regardless of DEA. Soil Enrichment, when built, directly augment EACH Bioharvest DEA individually.

Your decision, but you shouldn't read reviews then. This is alot like all censorship arguments: Should material be censored for everyone because a few people are offended by it, or should the few people just be careful and stay away from the material that offends them?

It's a non-issue, really. If they didn't like the "spoiler", that's okay - it has nothing to do with gameplay itself. It was changed because it was a minor part of the review.

And here's another non-issue because I'm in nitpicky mood:
How can you plug holes that are missing? (last sentence)
And did I get that right, buildings are are built for the whole planet not just for one DEA?

The review was good but its hard to judge it without being able to play the game and gauge how fair and honest the review was. There was nothing wrong with it that I saw. I really liked the interview though. I look forward to seeing how much of the original concept is represented in the final product

Er, the point of a review is to judge it for you whether or not to buy.
If you like, read multiple reviews.

Yes. There are 29 types each of attack and defense, and picking the right one, like a ruse, can give you an advantage bonus in combat. For example, if you're attacking, and you do a Ruse, you'll get a 90% bonus to your ratings if the defense attempts a massed assault.
That is, if you succeed in your ruse.
