My first try at this.
This is a RTS game with a twist.
The game is like most other RTS in that you must send settlers out and collect; wood, gold, stone, food, iron, and coal. However in this game you must product food to build, but product food to maintain your citizen. If you run out of food, your citizen will died immediately.
In this game you must build settlers for everything. After you build a fort, you can send your settlers there to become soldier. You also have to sent your soldiers to occupied each and every building, so they can defend it from your enemies. You will have to build mines and there are only a few places where the mine can be placed. Also you cannot defend your mines with soldiers inside. So you have to defend the mines with several soldier or the enemy will finally kill all of them. One on one, your soldiers will win each battle. One on two, your soldier will win with some damage. One on three your soldier should win but with sever damage. However the AI will send enemy after enemy warriors to wipe out your side. The enemy will start to attack five minutes after the game starts. If the game start with soldiers, you have to put all of your settler to food production, so your soldiers will not died from starvation. A few minutes later you can start to build more settler to build the other improvement. The upgrades for building and people cost lot of resources and I mean lots.
You have to be very careful where you place some building like the Mill. The Indian will try to attack the mill first if it is not protected. If you know where the Indians will be coming from, build the fort so they have go past it before they can attack your mill. Your soldiers inside should stop them but not always.
This game is fast. I slow down the speed a little and it is still very fast.
There is a fog of war, but unlike other fogs, this fog never goes away. That is after you go discover an area and leave, the fog returns and you cannot see if the enemy is now using the area you just left.
If there are any other question, please ask and I will try to answer.

They are almost the same.
Its upgraded Cossacks, it uses the same engine. So if you played Cossacks you'll fit right in.
There are lots of improvements like moral, realistic line of sight and realistic gun shooting, cold steel attacks(your shooters will draw their swords if in close range),manned cannons, much much better animations, indians require very different tactics, pop limit raised to 32 000(gaming record), better and more intuitive campaings and loads of stuff like that.
There are 2 demos, one is the regular one, one mission, part tutorial, part diplomacy and part combat only with europian nation against indians.
Second one is War of independence demo where you duke it out as England or USA on one random map.No tutorial as far as I can remember.
Get the demos from www.war-of-independence.com
