When we get the save, will one of the Consuls please post to the forum that we have it and hold a turnchat (post channel) so that we can revel in our start location for an hour or so and argue bitterly about moving or not moving, then send the save on it's way.

Togas, see the initial post in the "Next turn plans" thread for our first turn schedule. That is how I intend to take care of our opening move (actually, even if it was my idea, notyoueither agreed to the plan as well, and Ninot will hopefully notmindeither ).

Dominae, I'm not certain that that is good to quote. The prime reason Soren asked it in a closed forum is that it wouldn't leak to the outside world... a bit of a trust violation, if you ask me.

But let's hope that by joining the IDG, Firaxis will be faster on working on a decent MP patch, now that they actually have to deal with the bugs themselves.

DeepO, I see your point and thought the same thing too. At the same time, my intention is not to slander Firaxis in any way, and I do not think Soren would be very offended. If you disagree, though, I'll gladly remove the quote.

We don't have the save yet, CiverDan. I'm sure there will be a topped thread with all the necesarry info when the save will arrive. (i'm not sure if that will be the Infocenter thread or a new one).

Dom, I don't know... I think Soren wouldn't mind, but as we haven't asked him, I think the only right thing to do is to remove the quote. It's funny because it is embarassing to Firaxis, and I still value the company and their efforts, I don't want to embarass them.

They will probably be the first team to get in a losing position, as it is doubtful that they are going to put as much effort in this game as other teams, and many teams will see this as an opportunity to win from the makers of the game. Let's not overdo it

edit: BTW, Soren didn't respond to the answer I gave him, so I guess the turns from Firaxis are going to proceed slowly... most likely, they haven't opened the save yet.

I think he means give Soren what he needs to get the save moving so we'll get it quicker.

Post removed. But let me defend myself here: I am of the opinion that "sweeping things under the carpet" is not a very honest and open way to proceed. Yes, some things are potentially embarrassing, but some of these things deserve to be known. I'm not against Firaxis in any way, and do not care for those who give them bad press all the time. But closing your eyes to their faults and mistakes does not make these go away. I can bet you that Soren himself is glad to know firsthand the probems with PBEM, as it helps improve the company and one of its products (assuming he cares for Firaxis). It is a sorry state of affairs when a lead programmer of a small team has no idea of the major bugs in a piece of software he is working on. Keeping it all hush-hush helps no one. There is such a thing as constructive criticism.

Thanks Dominae. I agree with you to a certain degree, but there are good things too... it's nice of Firaxis to put in the trouble of playing a game with its fans, and let's hope that in doing so they'll get the bugs out too. So far, Firaxis has listened to a lot of our feedback, I see this as another opportunity to keep in touch with their fan base.

I wouldn't mind if the quote would have only embarrased Firaxis, but it ws also kind of personally embarrasing for Soren, and that I didn't like...

AFAIK, Soren's involvement with PTW has been very limited. In other words, he neither coded nor tested PBEM. I do not think he should be embarassed that he does not know how to avoid the pitfalls that were in the versions of PTW up to this date. However, I am also fairly sure that many of the trolls would not stop to consider that before they used it flame Soren and Firaxis.

Yeah this is frustrating. Is there anyway that someone can post a save in the thread so that we may download it and look at it? Even if it is too late now and our turn has passed, it is still nice as we can examine it and decide what we want to do for our next turn.



So please post the saves in some thread.

Err.. and is our save password protected? That might pose an extremely annoying problem.
