Foreign Affairs Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Let's say you're an Ambassador to Civ X. Your counterpart proposes a tech deal. You're not sure if this is a good deal for us, and there are several other possibilities. What happens?

a) You get to decide about this deal - it is your job to do this!

b) You take it to the Foreign Minister - he oversees all trades.

c) You take it to the Foreign Minister, and he takes it to the Consuls - they're the boss!

I left options like "discuss with the people" or "organize a vote" out of this.

The purpose of the question is to establish the correct lines-of-command, and to question who makes which decisions. If it is b) or c), I'd like to know how quickly things can be worked out in such a case.

Option b. It ensures you do not do anything rash, and it is not too much bureaucracy.

ps - I do have experience with FM in the GoW team.

b), with the added stipulation that you must provide the FM with your recommendation and reasoning for it, along with any pertinent background information. You are the expert on the other civ, and the FM doesn't have time to waste researching. The FM's job is to make the final judgement, ensure that the deal is consistent with team policy, and that it doesn't interfere with deals other ambassadors are working on.

Well it depends. For changes and negotiations to a set deal, the ambassador should have a good amount of freedom.

As to whether a deal is approved, it should be approved by the FAM. (though of course the Consuls can over-ride this judgement.)

So I agree with dejon entirely. b, with some reservations.

Tired of ads?

Option B, but in the end, it's going to be made public and both the Ambassador and the FAM are going to be ultimately answerable to the people and Consuls.

Just remember that. While we won't be polling over trade proposals and deals that need quick resolutions, that doesn't mean that the people don't have a say in how things are run. Run your office poorly or make some stupid deals and the people will remove you.

option b. But this also assumes that the consuls and ministers are on the same page - which I assume will definitely be the case.

So as Lennon and McCartney wrote: "let it b".

b: With Dejon's suggestions. Being an ambassador is more than just being a message-forwarder. The FM makes overall policy decisions, but the ambassadors should have the real working understanding of their assigned civ.

B is preferred, but obviously the Consuls have oversight of the Foreign Minister and may, at their discretion, over-rule him (or even replace him).

I believe this is my opinion stated perfectly.

Ambassador reroutes to FAM, who does the job of the people, not his own motives.
