	Naming Thread Put an end to popups!

City Naming Scheme

Everyone may submit a maximum of ten city names.

Then the Consuls pick their 5 favorite from everyones' list and produce a master list.

Then we have a vote on EVERYONES favorite city names from the Consul's list (in another thread)

The winning votes (in order) will form the city names which will be used in the game.

Perhaps each person should be given, say three weighted votes in the round after the Consul's choices?
1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd?

Try and figure out which are allusions to the Aeneid.

Name it after someone’s favourite singer or band or maybe even authors, as long as it doesn’t sound silly. For me for the bands that might be:

Semko
Lyngstad
Gessle
Savoy
Chaigrad [Tea Party sounds too silly for a city name]

or use the great names on the world of Verduria, at Virtual Verduria

Verduria
Cadhinor
Zhesifo, etc.

I love these crackup names. We should seriously consider using some of them.

Well a carry over from the SPDG and a city I named:
1.) Another Glorious City
(Not sure how many characters the Civ 3 naming convention supports, but if I remember, "Another Glorious City" just about maxes it out :-/ )

2.) CFC Labor Camp (Hah, our "arch-rivals")
3.) Don't Capture Me

Going off Ninot's suggestion...
4.) No One Lives Here

I agree - we must use "crackup" names as our theme. I know, referring to them will be a bit trickier, but we'll have more fun.
I propose:

1) Don't Raze Me
2) Secret Rocket Launching Site
3) No Monsters Here!
4) Will Never Reach Size 12
5) Booby Trap!
6) Opened from 1000 - 300 BC
7) This is Not a City

1. Go Away!
2. Keep Out!
3. Beware of Owner!
4. You Want Some?
5. Foreigners Go Home!
6. Go Ahead, Make My Day!
7. Xenophobia
8. Stalag 13 (where we keep captured workers)
9. I Got Here First!
10. You're a Loser!

Sigh... I will not elaborate on this, but I truly hate these "crack-up" names. It so bloody difficult and inconvenient to later refer to such cities... Anything but this.

Oh, and BTW, as for "my" city name, use Karina, please. I need this to be able to keep my involvement level as high as it currently is.

Well, I figured Alba Brevia (short white) was enough of a pun on Alba Longa (long white).

As for crackup names, I like Foreigners Go Home (though Romanes Eunt Domus works just as well)...

Vondrack - we should overcome the problem of referring to city names by making up short names for them. For Example, Secret Rocket Site can be referred to as 'Rocket'. The long name is just being used in-game to add flavour to it. And remember... the enemy will also have the same problem, messing up his attack plans.

Thats why its just a working list....I will add and subtract later.

Plus, there seems to be some discussion about using themes / not using funny names etc etc.

That should resolved before we start submitting lists.

well, if we are letting the consuls picking the top five from each list; and then letting the people vote on them- then it would be best to set a limit so as to limit the consuls' time
