I have a similar sytem Tass and Generals will be jaggy and slow except on the absolute minimum.

I've vaguely heard the names "Real War" and "Real War: Rogue State" you might want to check them out.

got a demo of real war a while back. the modern units were cool to look at for about 20 minutes...

then i realized its absolute crap.

C&C: Generals is.. well I like it. If you like the previous command and conquer stuff, this is for you. However if the pervious system irritated you, you don't want this.
And then, you need to have some iron in your computer to be able to run this game properly. But as c&c friend, I like this game a lot.

RTSes blow chunks. Whee gather resources, build buildings, build units, swarm the enemy. Blech. I'll admit, it's a good way to kill a day or two, but so's watching paint dry.

There are no good modern RTSes.

SC is the worst thing to ever happen to RTS games. Unfortunately, people always insist on praising the things that StarCrap got horribly wrong.

Its sides are horribly unrealistic. IRL, the Zerg, Terrans, and Protoss would have ended up with exactly the same weaponry within a year at most.

It uses the stupid harvester model of resource control.

It has a fixed and very low resolution.

The queueing that it does have is extremely limited and badly implemented. WC3 actually managed to make the queueing situation worse by dropping build queues. Attacking bases is a pain when you can't tell your units the order of razing in advance.

I don't remember if it required buildings for unit support or not, but it probably did because that's the stupid way of doing it.

You could only select a very limited number of units.

Et cetera et cetera et cetera...

Try Empire Earth, you can play any age you want, and the units in Modern age are good, the only thing is that tanks are pretty uselless in the game, cause they get killed easly be anti tank weapons.
