To keep the access to our savegames under control, while not denying them to our members altogether, it has been decided by the Consuls to provide them in password protected ZIP archives (posting the ZIP archive links in the Turn Reports & Summaries thread). The password will be revealed through a PM or email to anyone asking for it, the only condition being to accept the pledge mentioned below. The password may be changed from time to time, subject to further notice.
Note: The only exception will be the savegame for Turn 1 (4000BC), which will not be made publicly accessible because of security issues - the teams playing after Apolyton did not have their password set yet, thus likely to object making such a save publicly available.
quote:
The Savegame Pledge
I hereby pledge to:
- keep the password to the ZIP archive secret, not revealing it to anyone else.
- keep the unzipped savegame to myself only, never providing it to anyone else.
- play the moves for a given turn only as played by the Consuls and published in the Turn Reports & Summaries thread, never trying to reveal/look at tiles remaining shrouded or covered with the fog of war in the real savegame passed on to the next ISDG team.
Note: just to make sure, what the save may be used for - after playing all the moves as published in the summary thread, you are free to play with working different city tiles, studying the effect of changes on the food/shield/gold output, and on various info screen (F1-F11) readings. You are also free to use a graphics mod of your preference.
You are allowed to play a move that was not played by the Consuls only on condition that it would not alter the state of the savegame at the moment it was sent to the next team. Example: waking up a fortified unit, taking it then on a surveillance roundtrip using existing railroads, eventually ending in the starting position and fortifying there again.
- load the savegame using the Load Game function of the Main Menu only, never using the Load Game function available from within the running game.
Note: as of PtW 1.14f, the only safe way to load a PBEM savegame is to use the Load Game function in the Main Menu. Other ways may easily mess up settings for the game (loading through the MP screen) or make you cheat (un)intentionally by exploiting the infamous "load PBEM game" bug (using the Load Game function from within a running game).
- never tell anyone about anything learned in the unfortunate event that I unintentionally breach one of the above rules, also refraining from posting any suggestions based upon this "illegaly" gained knowledge.

I had thought that I was accepting something like this when I had joined. It's just like what we already have from all of the other DG's. But then, we do have new people to the DG....
Of course I accept...

Togas, the primary reason for putting the save into a password protected archive is to force everybody wanting to toy with it to read the pledge. I may have used a less then proper name for that, but the intention was that every person having access to the save realizes what is allowed and what is not, what is ok to do and what leads to cheating, even if unintentional. For people not familiar with PBEM, it is very easy to unintentionally do something bad - I myself learned some of those things by accidentally doing them... There is no place on Apolyton that would list the current PBEM bugs in this way.
Hope this makes it clear now. It is not my paranoia, it's just making sure we all know how things work. If I put few extra points into the pledge that are "obvious"... well, that's me. I usually try to be precise...

P.S.: I actually had a member in Legoland that unintentionally saw something he was not supposed to, falling victim to one of the load bugs. He felt very bad about it and restricted himself from the team activities until his knowledge was obsolete. Had he known about the problem, he would have made sure to avoid it.
