Over 100 people die in one week in club tragedies Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

I find it horrific that some 20+ and then some 95+ people died this week in two seperate tragedies in the US. Both tragedies occured in music clubs which apparently didn't abide safety regulations as much as they needed to.

I think it's sad that in such a time when people who get out of the house are afraid of terrorist attacks, they should also fear irresposible managers.

I wish to post my prayers for those who died tragically and needlessly.

Well, this is what proponents of deregulation want. The government to stop interfering in their businesses. Now the survivors and the survivors families can sue the club owners. Too bad for the dead and maimed.

che: The clubs violated existing law. What does that have to do with deregulation?

Tragic, and certainly very sobering. I was at a club concert last night, 1600+ people in one dark, enclosed space. It could happen to anyone...

Questions need to be asked though. Fireworks in a small club? Utter stupidity and 100 - mainly, I imagine, young - people have paid for it with their lives. Such a waste.

people bringing politics into this

It's called common sense.

The band is at fault, not the club. You don't have pyrotechnics in a small club. It is not done. And even then, it has to be approved by a fire marshall.

It has nothing to do with de-regulation. How can you say that? And fire safety has never been de-regulated anyways. It is as regulated as it has always been.

One club violated the law, the other did not. In any event, by acting outside the law they were effectively deregulating themselves. If clubs weren't forced to provide for safety, how many would?

You're right. If things like this didn't happen, there'd be no need for politics. Politics is about trying to make people's lives better and safer.

The club was not required to have either fire sprinklers or emergncy exit lighting. The lack of regulation in this case killed just as surely as the fire itself.

There were talking with a fire safety expert on World News last night (ABC). He's the one who pointed out the lack of regulation for these types of places.

well I have no idea what the laws are in that state. But those types of places are well regulated in my city. We don't need more regulations.

And sprinklers would not have stopped the panic. You cannot stop people from panicking when they see fire.

Some people would still have been crushed to death- as in chicago where there was no real threat.
