Iron Road options Get a bigger avatar today!

I've created a scenario and tested some options for the iron road plan. This thread is intended to discuss the results of those simulations.

This is the original plan of the Slave Master:

Options Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

The variations of that plan and their results are:

A) SM plan:

Pamplona and Madrid connected in 1225.
Iron connected in 21 turns, 3 workers in iron area.

B) Building 1 worker at Zaragoza in 1525 (available in 1500):

Pamplona and Madrid connected in 1225.
Iron connected in 1100, 18 turns.
Pamplona-Madrid task force arrives in 1125 (useless to build road, interesting if aiming for city and mine), 4 workers in area.

C) Building 1 worker at Zaragoza, changing spearman to worker at Pamplona, 1525 (both available in 1500):

Pamplona and Madrid connected in 1225.
Iron connected in 1200, 15 turns.
(Pamplona-Madrid same case as before), 5 workers in area.

D) Adding Astrologix slaves to Pamplona-Madrid road construction:

Pamplona and Madrid connected and forest chopped in 1300.
Iron connected in 1075, 19 turns.
Zaragoza and Pamplona not producing workers, 3 workers in area.

E) Building 1 worker at Zaragoza OR Pamplona, available in 1500:

Pamplona and Madrid connected and forest chopped in 1300.
Iron connected in 1125, 17 turns.
4 workers in area.

Comment: I put the number of workers that are available in the iron area because that can be relevant for further plans of developing a city there. In any case, moving workers to Madrid / Barcelona can take up to 4 or 5 turns, more or less... It's more efficient to use them near cow valley.

First of all thanks for avoiding me doing all the job Fibrizzo

In all cases using Astrologix Slaves to build the Madrid-Pamplona road instead of choping the forest produces earlier results. In adition, if we build an extra worker in Pamplona or Saragossa we have the iron conected earlier, but this decission has to be made on the next turn or it will be too late.

Suffering from ads?

That's true, because building the road between Santiago and the mountain is where the increased number of workers allows connecting in less time.

In other words, workers that only contribute in the mountain tile are welcomed, but they cause a reduced impact in the total number of turns to connect the iron.

I would choose the E) option, because we get the iron in 17 turns and only one city has to build a worker. And as Roadcage said, Pamplona-Madrid road is finished earlier, too.

Pamplona worker is not available as Settler is req'd to get the Iron w/o wasting a worker on a colony. And putting more workers on the road to iron will increase worker turn wastage. If you really, really gotta have that worker at Saragasso, let him mine local tiles to help Saragasso produce shields for it's temple.

Well, I'm a fan of building temples and I think that Saragossa or Pamplona should get one as soon as possible, among other reasons, to consolidate the Cow Valley. But for now iron is the maximum priority.

It's true that one worker changes 3 turns road for 2 turn road at expenses of some waste, It's not the most efficient form of using It but that's not the point if we are in a hurry for iron.

By the way, I agree with the idea of using Saragossa to build the worker instead of Pamplona, that settler will do a good service near the iron

In any case, using Astrologix slaves for the road Pamplona-Madrid seems a good idea to me. And if the extra worker can't be built, at least we improve from 21 turns of the original plan to 19. One turn can be the difference between been annihilated or upgrading the warriors and smashing ND

Any Option that changes the time of completion for the chopping will completely mess up the Barracks built in Madrid, I know, I helped Arnelos set that plan up.

Nonesense!

Please read the current turn order thread. There you will find clearly posted in full public view the recommended plan.

We all know that adding more workers will reduce their efficiency. If we do it, it will be to improve time and get the iron connected earlier. That's the decission we are facing. More eficcience at the cost of having the iron connected later, or earlier connection at the cost of having the workers doing their job less efficiently.

And yes, unless roadcage is missing something (like having a build order different from what Madrid Governor has planned), his plan gets the barracks in time without the need of an extra worker cuting the forest.

I'm also a fan of building temples, but at this moment security is far more important. We don't want an undefended temple in Saragossa or Santiago just in time to be conquered by ND. That temple even wouldn't be useful for them, because it would be destroyed once the city is conquered!
