Tired of ads?

Possible sites for a second city (directions starting from Apolyton:

1. 3-3-2 (SE, SE, S); Game/River access, 2 wasted coastal tiles

2. 3-3-3-3, no Game access, 4-tile spacing, coastal

3. 2-2-3, Game/River access, competes with capital for tiles until border expansion

Thoughts?

It might be good to have useful ports near the capitol both North and South.

4 spacing isn't too bad, especially with camps...

Suffering from ads?

I dont really want our second city to the SE. That much jungle negates growth and the benefits of having a city on the river.

If we're going to consider ralphing, how about:

3-3-2, temporary
3-3-3-3 permanent, coastal

Looking at the coastline, we'll likely eventually want one city 3-6 from the capital and another 3-3-3-3-6 to make good use of the available coast and sea tiles.

Also note that we can't have cities at both 3-3-2 and 3-3-3-3 because those two are adjacent.

Got spare money?

It all depends whether the spot of Apolyon is permanent, or whether there will be a Neuvo Apolyton at some point.

ie. I agreed to settling there so long as we kept the possibility open of rebuilding the capitol sometime soon.

Apolyton is neither a port, nor an inland powerhouse as it sits. That needs addressing after many Settlers.

I totally agree; the site isn't the greatest. Lets hope that it isn't all desert above or all jungle below us.

If it it.....woe is us.

I would settle on 3-3-3-3 and not move the capitol at least until FP is up and running. Hopefully we will have some nicer locations revealed to us after a bit of scouting. I shall make a sacrifice to the Banana and pray for lots of cattle squares to the west.

NYE - can you turn off the 'show resources on map' and turn on the grid? It'll be easier to spot the city sites.
I also have a hard time making out the forest from the jungle. That's 3 forest tiles in total, is it, and the rest is jungle?

One city should be on the river.

See the pictures in the Turn Reports & Summaries. Those use the setting you ask for.

From what we can see right now, this would be my choice, too. But frankly, we can see very little. The choice may change after we reveal more (even though a river delta location is fine by itself).

Good tiles are more important than river access this early. There are many things to do before we need Aquaducts,

Damn! A whole lotta dessert turned up north of us ; doesn't look good for second city possibilities. I guess either South or West might be the best opition; we shall see.

BTW, good thing we are Industious; we can at least turn poor tiles into decent ones in half the time.

I recall the person who setup the game saying that all start positions were acceptable, but that some were better than others. We know one thing for sure - we are not one of the better ones! Jungle, Desert, no river near starting spot... if it weren't for the game and spices I would say we got screwed. Doesn't matter - we'll win anyways.

I sure hope so......or we'll have to start pumping out workers to clear that damn jungle!

On a side note: I'm wondering if our start position ahs anything to do with the order in which we play. We play in turns and we are #5 out of 8.

Does anyone know if the game ranks start positions after the map is generated and then places the civs in those positions according to the order of play? If not; how does it decide who goes where? Does it depend on Level (probably in SP)?
