WHEREAS the Senate has just resolved to try for a Diplomatic Victory, and
WHEREAS the Diplomatic Victory has the risk that the other civilizations will jealously vote against us and so make us lose, and
WHEREAS there will be a great weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth in the realm if this happens, to say nothing of the fact that months of play will have been wasted,
THEREFORE should the Government of Apolyton not gain the Diplomatic Victory, the Government will be permitted to return to the turn immediately before the UN vote and try for another, different, victory condition, to be decided by Senatorial Vote when and if the time comes. The Government will refuse all UN votes after that point.

If we did this I wouldn't feel like I was still playing the same game.
I do not think the game will be a waste of time if we lose. I have enjoyed the game and think everyone else has had fun and learned a lot too.
