"The thing that bothers me is that Bush isn't going to be consistent"

I was waiting for that.

One day from a lefty it is "Bush isn't consistent" and the next day it's criticism about a "one-size-fits-all policy".

I've never complained about the "one-size-fits-all" policy. A piece of advice Bodds... when pointing out hypocrisy, it's important that the conflicting statements come from the same person.

I'm actually all for treating the supporters of terror the same. Let's remove Saudi Arabia's oppressive regime. They support much more terrorism than Iraq.

who cares what Bush's personal reasons for doing it are, the numerous 'other' reasons to attack him more than justify it. If a cop shoots a robber because the person who was that robber verbally insulted him a few days earlier, does that mean shooting that robber is now wrong, because the personal intention for shooting may not be justified?

Even if Bush is just using all those reasons for cover of his true reason, they are all still good reasons!

The US has been building up continuously ever since W. indicated his desire to invade Iraq.

So how long is a short time and when was a long time ago?

Sava,
if terrorism was the ONLY reason why the US wants to attack Iraq, then i agree with you. But there are many reasons, terrorism is just among them. Terrorism, on the other hand, would be the only reason to attack Saudi Arabia. With all the flack bush gets from trying to knock Saddam from power, do you really think he could get backing to take Saudi Arabia out?

With 2 billion followers, Christianity is the most popular religion in the world... does this mean all the other religions are wrong?

If you are following the anti-war movement merely for the sole reason that more people are on that side than the pro-war movement, then i am sorry for you.

"Apparently, the majority of the people and countries in the world disagree with you."

And as we know, the majority are always right.

They have more ulterior motives for being against the war than Bush has for being for it. For a start, anti-Americanism.

here you go:

What is the most popular religion in the world?
With over 1.1 billion adherents, Islam is the world's most popular single religion.
Following Islam, Catholicism, Hinduism, Protestantism, and Buddhism round out the top five.

However, there are almost 2 billion Christians in the world - divided into several subsets of Christianity.

Almost one billion people (one-sixth the world's population) are agnostic, atheists, or indifferent to religion.

with that logic, all religions are wrong (which is fine with me, i just came to a similar conclusion with less flawed logic).

no, not really. i got sick of these iraq threads for awhile. I dunno why i came back to it, really. no body changes anybodys' mind, and they just brood harsh feelings, it seems.

Insofar as I'm concerned, *both* sides in the debate regarding Iraq have made valid points. But neither side seems to understand a fundamental fact, and that is this:

No matter what happens in Iraq — whether we go to war with them, or stick with increasingly-ineffective sanctions and diplomatic solutions that leave Saddam in power — people will die. Innocent people. There are no ifs, ands or buts. People will die. All that matters is when and how they will die. Should war break out, they will die in a matter of weeks, maybe months. Should war never materialize, and Saddam remains in power, they will continue to die as they have since the day Saddam took power so long ago, victims of his secret police, of his purges, of his wars, and whatnot.

There appears to be no solution where lives are spared. Both sides in this debate should agree on that, because it's cold, hard reality.

About the only "silver lining" I can see in war is that death would come soon for some, but might bode for a brighter future for the survivors, whereas the scenario where Saddam remains in power bodes only years and years of gradual torture and death for many.
