As Minister of Domestic Affairs, I encourage wveryone to vote for Brozne Working. Religion and Thoecracy should be our second scientific goal with these raging hordes that can come from no where. I think religion is our major target... but the amount of civs swings me towards Bronze.

As long as our population is below 4-5-6, then each unit builded will add "many" turns to the time it takes get first religion and then theocracy. And I guess we would build a phalanx a.s.a.p. after we have bronzeworking or?!?!?

If you are worried about our "peaceloving" neighbours, then keep the warrior within 2-3 tiles of our capitol until we have unit no. 2 (that could be another warrior or a legion - whatever possible to build) and let us stay at war.

If we see any units from another nation, then pull our warrior back into the city immediately!

No, Nimrod. I do not agree with the bronze working/phalanx as the best defense for the long run. The best defense is a good offense. It is a weak strategy to move towards defense initially. You are losing valuable time going after bronze working instead of religion. Our fortified warrior in forest can hold off any wandering warrior or phalanx coming our way if you are worried about that. My defensive strategy is long term, not short term. Build settlers NOW!

get bronze working, then get what ever. but we need that defense, its important, they can also be used as offense too by fortifiying them near enemy cities to piss em off. Its a trick used back in the original civ game. Just build a bunch of phals then set them up so that our enemies cant move unless they kill our unit.

Its obvious that we are split in what to research first. Religion is good because we need to get to theocracy as soon as possible, but Bronze Working is good because it gives us that defensive advantage that we need.

Personally I think Bronze Working is better right off the start because we will be dealing with hoards of Barbarians, if we encounter 2 enemy warriors then what? That phalanx will come in handy in thoughs situations.

I just dont think its worth the risk to not research Bronze Working first.

Against the a/i, I don't think it matters whether we do bronze or religion first. We will win -- I am confident of that -- unless there is too much deviation from strong play. I'm just trying to tell those of you who want to build a solid civilization in your other CtP games -- go for Religion first, then Theocracy next. (It looks like we will be outvoted here Birdman... ). Against a good human player, if you go for bronze working first, you will most likely lose.

I am reconsidering my vote too based on quinns agruments. A warrior in our city should do well enough on his own until we have Theo and after that Brozne for our defense.
