I agree with GePap as well. Nothing wrong with setting up such a fund, but don't slam the UNCF.

It amazes me that people actually think that:

1) you can just proclaim "there's no more discrimination" and POOF! magically it's true, and
2) even if there was no discrimination today, there wasn't an enormous amount of damage done within a generation of the people now attending college.

Tell me which one you have heard the most.

I was denied college funding. Why? Because I am white? Actually, it was because my parents are rich, but didn't think it would teach me any responsibility to pay for my education. If I wanted it I would have to get myself. Funny how my sisters didn't have to learn any responsibility, the just had to get a Mrs. degree.

Anywhoo, that's where scholarships come in to play. Yet, even a majority of those are reserved for minorities.

I say more power to this guy. He is actually taking a stance against something he believes in, instead of ranting about it on some message board.

Yes, the poor put upon white male. After all, we are only the segment of society that controls the government, runs almost all business, are the most represented in academia, least likely to be unemplyed. Man, it sure sucks to be a white man in the US.

Most scholarships (if you take state and federal money out of the equations--which is income based) are based not on race or gender or ethnicity (and in the US, most ethnic scholarships are for whites, BTW). This is the thinking of lazy people who don't apply themselves to looking for scholoarships. Almost every union offers scholarships. Many companies offer scholarships. There are schoarships for specific programs of study, for specific schools, for being let-handed, from being decended from a particular family, from being from a particular town, etc.

Most of these don't get awarded . . . because no one applied for them. If you don't have money for school, you just aren't looking hard enough. I'm not saying it's easy, because my financial troubles with school caused me all sorts of problems. But it wasn't cuz I'm white.

There is a reason I do not have a degree. because I could not afford to go to college. I still can't. And I could not get a scholarship. I had no choice but to live on my own at age 18.

Never said we are. I'm certainly not rich. But the idea that we are oppressed because we are white males is laughable, since almost every aspect of society is controled and run by white males.

As for school, I'm sorry man. You shoulda tried harder. I was homeless twice while going to school. I scrounged every scholarship and loan I could get. I lived in the shittiest, worst neighborhoods in Chicago, where my physical safety was at risk just walking through them. I lost so much weight once I was skeletal.

well I agree. I am not oppressed. Never have been. But that doesn't mean we don't face obstacles financially.

I probably could have tried harder for school. But I would have had to make sacrifices I wasn't prepared to make (no vehicle etc.) I feel I do have a college level education because of other endeavors I have done. But I don't have a piece of paper to show that.
