Rush brought a ton of voters to the Republican side over the last half dozen years. I stopped listening to him because it was painful to hear him slur his speech due to the hearing problem. It made him sound drunk. I felt really sorry for him, but he is a trooper and I understand his hearing is better now.

I don't agree with a lot that he says but he is, or was, a more powerful political force than just about any sitting legislator for a number of years.

When Rush first aired, I wasn't sure whether he meant his audience to take him seriously. He sounded like he might be doing a parody of old-time right-wing blowhards like Joe Pyne and Wally George. I still think he might have started out with that intent, then switched to playing it straight when he realized that there was a vast audience with the IQ of cat litter which was taking him seriously, and making him rich and famous in the process.
