9 units... 5 Hoplites and 4 Archers. The city site that Wels sits on is poor enough to guarantee that it will be a slaughter.

if it's a poor city site, shouldn't we burn it to the ground if we capture it?

If its size 2 when we attack it, its size 1 when we occupy it.
We can disband it the same turn, and get a Settler: 10,000 people, plus 740 shields of production. Its a worthwhile payoff.

There is only one tile that the AI might have terraformed for growth. That tile is the grassland to the NE. Without extra farming tile improvements, the city has very poor growth characteristics. It was founded after Pressburg and Innsbruck.
Its a size 2-3 tops... based on the growth spreadsheet projections. If its a size 3, which would be a size 2 when we conquered it, then I'd consider building and rushing a settler, before disbanding it, if viable, so we'd get 2 settlers out of the deal.

i agree with Mr Baggins, we should take it and sack it. It doesnt look too mush trouble, since we are currently consolidating our defenses at Graz and Htown. We have the 9 stack to hit wels, If we didnt have to worry about our defenses then i would say attack somewhere else but, we do so attack the easy target of wels.
Although I would like to see us take cities like Lins and Innsbrook, but we just dont have the forces yet.
