Maybe I'm doing something wrong, maybe not.
I've got 5 Colony ships, I've told the Planets | Orders screen to send colony ships to 2. I hit Turn.
I look a few turns later and all 5 Colony ships are heading to one of the desired planets as 5 separate fleets. I disband all 5 fleets and they wind up back home, eventually.
I click a single planet for colonizing, a turn later and all 5 colony ships are heading out.
What am I doing wrong? I surely don't think I should have the AI sending every colony ship out to a single planet. And I can't seem to keep the pack of them from going to the planet.
This doesn't seem right.

thats what im talking about in my other post further down. I think there is some bug going on with that. You can also top out yer planets population doing that as it allows all the 5 ships to land on that same planet. You could send 20 ships if u had that in yer reserves and fill the planet up. Reading the manual and game rules, you arent supposed to be able to do that. Colony ships are supposed to be forbidden from dropping off more population on a planet after the planet reaches the 1000 pop mark thus making it a full colony... but that isnt the case. You can use yer production power to max out all the population on yer planets... must be some kinda bug.

How might I manually send a colony ship? The only reason I'm doing it from the Planet screen is that I can't find another way to do it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. Form a task force consisting of a colony ship. To do so, click on the "Creat task force" tab on your that pops up on your homeworld when it is selected in the galaxy map. I create a "Detachment/Colony" task force with only the colony ship in it. I suppose you can add escorts, or more than one colony ship to start with a larger colony.
2. After a turn or two, the task force will appear on the galaxy map. Direct it to the system with the planet you want to colonize.
3. When it gets there, double-click on the star on the galaxy map to bring up the system view. Select the planet you want to colonize, then click the "Forces" tab at the bottom of the screen. Then select the task force with your colony ship and click the Colonize World (or something like that) tab. Next turn, you will have a colony there.

All this folderol to create a colony task force is a definite step backward from the old way IMNSHO.
I liked being able to send a colony ship when looking at the planets screen.

I have been only creating one colony ship at a time (at least early) and then the create colony works just fine....as long as there aren't any other colony ships to get confused.
