	few gameplay questions Tired of ads?

just have a few gameplay questions:

1. How do you keep the research funding %'s LOCKED? It seems that the AI will ever so slightly adjust it....it doesn't change things too much...but...would like to lock them and keep them that way if possible....

2. It would seem that there is no way to give a gift of AU's? If not, what is the best way (or any ways) to help improve relations with other empires?

3. What happens with the extra food, minerals, ect.
Do they turn into money? or just disappear?


I am sure I will find many many more questions, but these are the ones that got me puzzled....I just started a new game...and these things keep coming up in my mind...

AFAIK, no lock works, no gifting of AU. You can trade and get cash for food, so I have read.
