Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

Upgrading units is cheaper than paying for completing SPs. So, instead of paying, you upgrade a crawler to the most hideously expensive configuration you can, and cash it in to pay for the SP instead. It takes some extra work, but you can save a lot of cash by doing it.

Some consider it a cheat, some don't. I don't really care as I don't multiplay.

As an aside, it is not generally considered to be a cheat in multi-player either. As far as I am aware, the three main boards: Apolyton, ACOL and CGN permit the use of it.
