This thread will be to discuss what to do when we first meet another team, and also lay out some basic procedure.
First things first, do we have an email contact for every team? What is the public email contact for our team?
Is it merely our save game email address?
Whatever address we have set up and whomever receives a message from another team, you are to post the message for the public. I will create a thread that will be used simply for us to post message we have received and messages we have sent to other teams. The Correspondence Thread will not be used for discussion
If we sight the other team first we should attempt to contact them via email and then arrange for a chat via mIRC to negotiate. If we contact another civ get ahold of me. I check my email at least every hour or two at home and work, and am often idling in the Roleplay Team's chatroom, so one of my team members can usually grab me.
Assuming I am unavailable and Arnelos is also unavailable, we are to offer Potery first, Masonry second, Alphabet third. Use their editor value and trade value for value or trade a weaker tech for a more valuable one if possible.
Try to aquire all of the other civ's tech if possible. Early trade goal is to get as much knowledge as possible. Remember that Alphabet is more valueable than any other early tech and we should be able to get 2 techs for it if we press hard enough.
If no negotiations happen with the other team, at least offer them our weakest tech in the diplo screen and we'll try to negotiate with them as soon as possible.
Once I find out who the other team is I'll assign an ambassador. In the interum, either myself or one of the consuls may negotiate for our team.
At the moment I only have 2 people who have signed on to serve as ambassadors. I would hope that a few more of you are interested. If so, please PM me.

Togas, what about logs of unofficial or official "chats"? Should these be included in the contact thread? Some people feel that what is said in casual chats is more or less official (not a problem, as long as both parties understand each other).

I thought what Jodi Foster did was a pretty good outline to follow; no?
Seriously though.
If we come into contact with more than one Civ on the same turn we should give priority to the Civ that has 'starting' techs that we are after and not the ones we may be near in completing reseach in ourselves. Tech we are close to getting through research has value because not all Civ's may have contact with the others at this point; so we shouldn't be quick to trade anything away for it.
