How do I build a ship? Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I've played 20 turns now and still have not absorbed how to build a ship. Is there some patch I have to install first?

For some reason I think I will need to know how to build a ship to survive at this game.

U're probably right

Ships are build in the Military Queue on your planets. You have to create a task-force in order to use the ships.

Built ships goes in to the "reserve". At the Shipyard you can create a taskforce and move ships from the reserve to active duty. (takes a turn)

OK, this is really unstraightforward.
1.) Design a ship on the "Shipyards" Screen (tag at bottom) This is a world unto itself.
2.) Assuming that you have designed a ship, or using one of the defaults, go to the "Planet Screen" (another tag) and double click on the planet you want to build this ship.
3.) On the planet's screen, open the big Economics Menu on the left, and then open the millitary menu on the middle right hand side of this menu.
4.) This should show the build queue. Put some ships in it (double click)
5.) Now on the economics for that planet increase the millitary funding (not too much, or you're burning money - try to keep it yellow or orange)
6.) Wait.
7.) When the ship is build click "Form new Task-force" and deploy it.
8.) Go and kick some butt.

If it's taking forever to build either make more Industry DEAs, or increase Millitary Funding. (I awlways change this to a "Limited War" setting, just to get the colony ships popping out faster, and to hell with the wasted money.

Hope this help Ghengis.

Put an end to popups!

Thanks, I wonder if any of the designers of this game ever planned to play it themselves.

GF, I emphasize with ya.

Building ships and controling what your planets are building is an essential aspect of this game and I'm frustrated at how many steps I have to take to adjust my build queues.

This should be much much easier and straightforward than it is. It's like the designers are trying to force you not to micromanage fleet construction, but I want to manage this vital aspect of my empire, d*mnit!

As a sidenote: You MUST build task forces. Your planets can build 100 ships and they're in limbo until you assign them to task forces. And to build Task Forces you have to first build those Rally Point developments (name escapes me).

Put an end to popups!

This game is so irritating. There are so many concepts and great ideas listed in the manual but they never seem to apply them or even attempt to tell you how to access them in the game.

Where is the info on "Magnate" civilizations? They aren't listed in the encyclopedia OR the manual. They are listed in the readme file but all it says is that they "are a special". Gee, thanks. That really helps a lot.
