Taking out the New Orions Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

Just took the NOs out in my current game and ran across some oddness that I thought might be useful to somebody.

General situation: Took out the NO fleet and stacked LARGE amounts of task forces in the Orion sector, controlling the system. While gathering troops for the upcoming invasion a fully allied civ sends in some colonys, under protection from my fleet, onto the 2 Red2 worlds (Red2 to me, but not them) that were uncolonized. No Problem.. until...

As most know the NOs will pump out anywhere between 3 and 12 new ships a turn and try to dislodge your fleets stationed in the Orion sector, no problem I have HUNDREDS to beat them to dust. BUT EVERYTIME I went to invade/bombard a NO world, no matter if I chose intercept fleet, assault planet, of defend planet. I would ALWAYS have my fleet assigned to defend my allies colonies. I could never make headway. those 3-12 ships shopped any my invasion attempts.

Solution: was rude.. had to break ALL Treaties with my good ally to get rid of the defensive alliance! Gggrrr. After that I could assault the NO worlds no problem. However, was afraid to capture any of them (except for the last) incase the 'colony-lock' that I had with my ally would also affect my newly conquered worlds. Eventually I exterminated all the NO planets from space with bombardment except for the last one.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this 'colony-lock' before, would it have effected MY worlds IF I had conquered the NOs worlds? and is it something that only effects the NOs or can this happen with other races?

Yes it does and it is frustrating. I had to create transport TF's with beam and carrier escort ships to ensure that in the 1 turn in 10 window when no enemy ships would appear I could attack their planets with enough ships to kill the defence and have enough troops in the stack to then successfully invade.

I think it only effects the NO's. Whether this is because they are always processed first or because they have a tech advantage I don't know. Fastest goes first maybe?
