I envy people who live in San Diego - Pinback's members can claim previous service time in such noted San Diego thinking person's rock ensembles as Three Mile Pilot, Black Heart Procession, Heavy Vegetable, Thingy, Physics, and Optiganally Yours. All of these bands contained either Rob Crow or Zach Smith. Not to mention Royal Crown Revue's frequent live gigs.

I like her music's message and some of her songs sound good. of course, some songs lyrics suck, and so do their sound, but i think that the main thing which she is projecting, her message, is what gets me hooked.

I have a few annoyances with "Avril." Here they are.

1. She is obsessed with her personal image.
2. She can't sing live (I'm judging from her 2 SNL performances, not an actual concert)
3. She isn't as cute as Britney
4. She can't sing live
5. She has caused a mass conversion to "Punk" by teenage girls, who, of course, are the least "punk" demographic group there is. (Yes, even less punk than toddlers, seniors, etc.)
6. She can't sing live
7. She criticizes over-the-hill "pop" artists to become famous. She picks easy targets whose popularity is stagnating, and then claims to be the opposite. (Which she is not, but I won't get into that because that's already a part of #1)
8. She can't sing live.
9. She doesn't write her songs on her own.
10. She can't sing live.

Avril's problem with live performances is ithat she simply can't sing in tune. However, she is in tune on her album. It's not too hard to figure out why. Singers, by definition, are supposed to be able to sing in tune without the assistance of music editing software.

If they also don't write their own songs, what use are they? Bob Dylan wasn't a great singer, but he was a great writer. Art Garfunkel was a great singer, but not a great writer. Paul McCartney was both. Avril is neither. She is simply a front for her songwriters, who are probably middle-aged balding men who realized they needed a pretty face to sell their music.

That being said, "I'm with You" is a great song. It's just not her song.

She did a terrible cover of System of a Down's "Chop Suey". You should download that.

Punk Rock is terrible, so many people these days are grasping onto it, and...argh, god...

I don't know if it's the same song, I've never heard the Ramone's version, but I have heard SoaD's...and it's labeled as a SoaD cover online.

Punk Rock and Pop are both in the same "listenability" segment for me.

Bring it on, Provost/Ramo/whoever else...

I just downloaded the Avril/Chop Suey, truly the worst thing I have ever heard, possibly even beating out Leonard Nimoy's "Ballad of Bilbo Baggins".

no way in hell am I downloading an avril song to verify whether or not it's a cover of the ramones song. You should download the ramones version Asher - I guarantee you it will be 100 times better than anything from Avril.

Find a pretty face,
dress it up,
tell her/him what to say and when to say it,
produce a couple of catchy songs,
market it heavily
and earn a lot of money.

Avril, Britney, Christina, whoever.... they basically dont do crap. The producers do it. They just look pretty and are cool in the eyes of the average teenager.
