Just a reminder of what the record industry is Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

And why it should die a quick death, as from a slow one there is no use anyway ---

a short take on Avril, but it just reminds me why RIAA should die sooner rather than later...

quote:

An icon, that is, who wears baggy pants, plastic bracelets and a scowl -- not the skimpy threads and Ultra brite smiles of Britney and Mandy and Beyonce and pre-"Dirrty" Christina. An icon who sings about crushes on skater boys and who listens to Blink-182 and who may or may not know who Sid Vicious was. An icon who had quite a bit of help writing the songs on Let Go but at least not from the Swedish hitmakers who write Backstreet Boys songs, or from the Neptunes, who write everything else.

Lavigne's blockbuster performance -- Let Go was the third-best-selling album of 2002 -- is surprising, but clever marketing has certainly helped. To a young audience tired of glitzy teen disco, Lavigne has been presented as a guitar-toting singer-songwriter. But it is unclear how much songwriting she does. You have to get by the handwritten lyrics and examine Let Go's liner notes very carefully to find out who wrote what, and the booklet contains photos of Lavigne's touring band, which doesn't actually play on the record.

And then there's the issue of her punk-rock cred, or lack thereof. It's a sore subject for Lavigne, who avoids using the p word these days. But her bandmates, all veterans of small-time punk bands, are quick to defend her. "I can totally understand why people would be pissed off at Avril," says rhythm guitarist Jesse Colburn, who used to play in an Ontario band named Closet Monster. "But it's not her fault. Punk pop is in right now, and someone out there thought they could capitalize on it with Avril. You can look kind of punky without listening to punk rock or writing punk-rock music."

ah the whole thing is in there http://www.rollingstone.com/feature...en.asp?pid=1555
anyway I like the cynical sound of this journalist in the above three paragraphs --- the rest is just usual stuff

nothing new that is, but still - "isn't it pathetic, don't you think" that we are fed this cra* trough the airwaves again and again and again...

"it's like RIAAAAAA when they make a new artist
it's a free CD when you already paid
it's a good advice that you should download while you can
well who would have thought... that they'll give us another one like that again

isn't it pathetic, don't you think?"

,
* at least that Russian lesb* underage p*rn should get a star for originality of marketing - but this -

* I propose that they make a proper ViVID Film starring Christina Aguilera, Avril, Alanis, Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, Mariah Carey , Boyzone, NY Sync, Shakira, Marky Mark, Buffy the Vampire Layer, Cheeky Girls singing their Cheeky song as the intro and throw in David Grohl (as he would enjoy making it - the film that is not the cheeky song ) and as a special guest - of course Britney Spears and give David Beckham a cameo appereance

P.S: For posters outide UK - this is a recent NO 1 (I think it was) Perfect intro for an inspirational ViVIVD masterpeace

I think the fact that she listens to Blink 182 (this year's Hootie and the Blowfish) says it all. Big phony.

OOH... I was wrong the song only made it to #2

and for christmas # 1 they were beaten by Girls Aloud and One True Voice ROTF poor girls were only #3 and at least out of the three thier song was written by thier mother (if nothing else) and not some RIAA cheapshot. - that is comment about the Cheeky Girls/Song

The cheeky song is fun

uke: NOT!

But it's very very fun to gather in large groups and laugh about it.

I lost all respect I ever hand for england when I heard it reached no.1

We did it reach No1 I think I just read that it was only #2 at peak... no matter what it is still better than Christmas #2 and #1 that topped it for the holiday season.

This cheeky song is at least genuine shite as opposed to manufactured .

blink 182 and several other new punk bands are actually cool

admittedly i'm not a punk in baggy clothes.

but i like thier humor and cynicism , because it's much less fake than "jay lo" or "britney" or whatever.

and frankly, thinking about it, justin timberlake has had several nice songs. i can't call them masterpieces, but they are interesting pop music. very similar to michael jackson.

More often, though, I get appalled. Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" was great in Trainspotting, but when it was used in a Heineken ad I blanched. When I heard it later in a ****ing CRUISE SHIP AD I knew we were tumbling ass over teakettle down a slippery slope. Iggy Pop songs should be used to advertise heroin, not ****ing yuppie ****ing cruise ships vacations with their ****ing brat kids.

At least Iggy started straight and didn't fast track to sell-out like this Blink-182 generation.

What the **** is wrong with that? It's not like it makes it a worse song! And if it makes one kid go out and buy the album, that's one more person potentially converted to good music! What does it matter where a song comes from? What's the point of all the posturing, all the cliqueism, all the "not good enough" snootiness that real bloody punks rebel against, you retrograde bastard? Bring back the music into focus! Who cares what the surroundings are?

But there was never any add from a Pink Floyd song... or was there?

Not that I can remember...

Can you imagine Mc Donalds add with "comfortably numb" and the camera on the sales guy

"
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb."

Of course there wasn't. Roger "his holiness" Waters would never consent to letting his finer music descend into such lowly commercial culture. He's a man with standards! Fox Hunting, Stravinskij riffs, pomp, pomp, pomp!

Well there is probably other ways to get to the Stooges or Iggy ususally... I doubt that a jingle around a 4 door sallon with the brand new 16 v engine will convert anyone...

Just improvising I am sure that many young kids were converted to Rolling Stones by Win 95 "Start me up"

Well I'd say there is nothing bad really, but hearing something that you appreciate in a crappy add again and again in between Home and Away breaks that your roomate watches every day can take the joy away from you sometime.

If you just ignore pop-culture... it eventually goes away. It's too bad there are too many dumbasses that stay glued to MTV to listen to what kind of music they should like next.
