Dire news indeed!
Let us hope and pray for our fallen Warrior; he was a brave lad.
We can also do the same for our other potential hero in that he discovers a wondering group of nomads or an un-discovered fountain of knowledge.

If we switch to a warrior now we lose shields; but I think we need it.

Yep, too bad about W1 (Trip did not train him well enough, I suppose). I think we're still okay to go with the Granary, and I would hate to see us lose 10-15 Shields. Tough decision, I'm glad I'm not the one making it! Let's get a conscript from the next Hut, okay?

Dire news, indeed...
I only slowly realize how unbelievably lucky Lego was with its huts (we got NO barbs at all and five techs... talk about being lucky).
But even considering my SP experience, a luck this bad is a bit rare, even though not unseen...
I, too, believe that we should stick to the granary plan. Wasting so many shields to get one more explorer is not justified.
Oh well...
P.S.: Aeson, in PBEM games, you have no way to see how battles proceeded, you only see their outcome... with other human opponents, you can arrange that battle reports are relayed (which is what we proposed at the 1BC UN), but I seriously doubt we could make an arrangement like this with barbarians...

Of note, the diplo screen shows a single circle with the question mark over the black silhouette. Anyone ever figure out what that means, exactly? |
Can someone post the save so that I can look at what he's talking about?
Thanks.

This shows up whenever your player a MP game. Either on-line or PBEM or whatever; and you haven't met anyone yet. It shows that there are un-met Civ(s). You can see how many oppents/Civ's you have and what their nations are anyways by the score on the screen. Why they have a placeholder in the Diplo screen when you haven't met anyone yet(officially) I do not know. They don't use it in SP games at all.

My question now, assuming the 2nd warrior survives, do we bring it back close to Apolyton. I would almost think we have to. I am worried that building another warrior after the granary will hurt our initial expansion.

Building a fourth Warrior after the Granary will put us back 2 turns of expansion, without loss of Food or any other detrimental effect. This is in contrast to the "W4 before the Granary" plan, which came at some extra sacrifice, no matter what. Although I would like to expand as fast as possible, another Warrior after the Granary is probably a good idea.

The sounding of the drums was incessantly loud. "Boom. Boom. Boom." Warrior BetaHound looked around leerily, seeing no one. "Any one home?" He asked in a slightly shaking voice.
"I know this tribe-camp with many goodies- but I see none."
"Boom. Boom. Boom." The sound drew near. BetaHound retreated to a high spot to see what was causing the noise.
He looked around the plateau and frowned. "Barbarians." He muttered, seeing three tall warriors in front of him, approaching in an ellipse pattern.
"No goodies." He spat and drew his club. "Smash time begin now." He readied for the assault.
*
"We lost him?" Foreign Minister Togas peered into the volumnious report that Consul Ninot had just handed him.
"Damn." Markos G., Ruler of Apolyton cursed and clenched his fist.
"He wasn't the brightest of them all, but he was the bravest explorer we had." Ninot sighed.
"We will kill ten barbarians for every one of our men felled." Vondrack declared haughtily, raising his head. "I myself will raise an army for this purpose-" Consul vondrack stormed out of the room, intent on accomplishing his purpose.
"The ... Etruscans ... must pay." Consul notyoueither seethed, folding his hands and nodding his head conspiratorially. "As... must... those... responsible." His eyes drifted towards the fuming Minister of War.
Minister of War, Trip cracked his big administrative stick over his knee. "BetaHound was my best. He should have been invincible- now he has stirred up opposition in the north!
Why did he have to stumble across that lost tribe on the peninsula! Three against one! How could he have met the opposition. We must train more to avenge him and to avenge the cause!"
"Perhaps... someone else should... train others..." Consul notyoueither frowned.
"No, I support Trip." Markos waved notyoueither down. "He could not have predicted those barbarians."
"Perhaps... perhaps not." Consul notyoueither replied, shrugging nonchalantly. "Perhaps..."
"But he will eliminate the threat now that it is present." Markos declared.
"I propose negotiation." Togas stated, hand flying out of his toga to make a pointing finger in the air.
"We will not... negotiate... with barbarians. They are not... civilized." Consul notyoueither spat.
"I am sad to say, Minister Ninot, that we will not negotiate with barbarians." Markos stated, shaking his head. "We cannot afford them that legitimacy."
Ninot sighed, then bowed.
Meanwhile
" Aaaaaaaahahahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hhh" Warrior bigfree1 screamed and collapsed.
"Me Thug." The first Barbarian, stepping out of his hut, laughed.
"He Ug." A second Barbarian, this one a female, pointed to a third, just emerging from over a hill behind bigfree1.
"She Zug." The first Barbarian pointed toward the female, then spoke at greater lengths- "Perhaps you meet our northern cousins- Huey, Dewey and Louie?"
Bigfree1 continued to scream.
"Perhaps not?" Thug unstrung his club and made for bigfree1.
*
"Another attack!" King Markos was horrified.
"Yes, your excellency." Togas bowed low to his liege.
"We must immediately cease work on the Granary and produce another warrior!" Markos rose, screaming, holding a hand steady in the air.
"He is not dead yet-" Ninot pointed out.
"Nor will he be." Trip declared. "He knows what to do."
A loud scream cut through the assembly. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
"What was that?" King Markos asked.
"Nothing." Trip answered quickly... almost too quickly.
"Sound... does... carry so... does it not?" Notyoueither grinned wolfishly.
Trip snarled, hand going to his broken stick.
Notyoueither laughed.
"Good Sirs!" The Minister of Internal Affairs held up his hands, putting an end to the squabbling.
"Please consider the facts.
"We have a warrior to defend our nation- remember Alva."
All gathered nodded grudgingly.
"Well, please realize that we do not wish to set our nation back futher by switching from a granary at this point of time." Dominae continued.
"And I truly believe that Alva can handle the defenses."
"I can vouch for that!" Consul Ninot raised an eager hand.
"Yes, truly." Dominae nodded, acknowledging the interruption, then continued, "Perhaps we should produce another Warrior after the Granary. It would only set our "master plan" back two turns or so... and provide us much needed protection."
The gathered nodded, considering the proposal
