RE: ISDG

Many of you have come to me in private to either thank me for leaving or asking me to return.

This is not an isolated incident of a single individual. I do not hold bigfree1 personally responsible, nor will I stand for any of you holding him responsible for my own actions. Truth of the matter is, that there were planty of people opposed to the very idea of such a thing as a paper that was not under strict control. They chose for whatever reason not to reveal their oppinion in public. I came to the forum last night after having been through several PM's that were extremely critical and sometimes down right rude. I then unleashed my frustration at bigfree1.

For that I am very sorry, and I truly hope that you will all cease to blame him or ridicule him for making me leave. That is not the case, he just was the first to spark my anger. He had every right to be questioning as he did. Apolyton is an open society, and in such a society the citizens are free to speak their minds.

Upon further reflection on this decision, though, I think I am better off staying outside the ISDG. I do not intend to become involved in the politics or the actual game, I only wanted to write a paper. Thinking on this alone, I will be able to reach a larger audience, and not have any problems with being accused or potentially accused of leaking out information if I simply write the paper for the open SPDG that will proceed.

I truly wish you all the best and have no hard feelings toward anyone there for what was said publicly or in private. I will advise you, however, that if you want to keep interest long term, you will need a form of relaying information that is not simply static reporting. Perhaps forming a history office, or a newspaper IS the answer. In the SPDG, we had good attendance until my own RL ceased production of the Gazette for some time. Perhaps that was coincidence, perhaps not.

Now, go and kick some Firaxis butt for me.

Using PM for public affairs, and getting this kind of consequence is absolutely unfair.

Send the offending persons to see the Barbs. This kind of conduct is outragious, especially when doing it by PM. I am unable to voice all of the Emotions that I am feeling right now, because of this.

Man... being tangled up with RL concerns for several days and not signing in online leaves one paralizingly confused as to how events could lead to such things when one gets back...

I assume someone pissed off Unorthodox, and rather badly. I can understand that, I've done it myself.

I would offer advice, but it would be meaningless. One's ability to swallow their pride isn't something you can offer effective advice about in my experience...

As such, yelling and screaming about it won't help.

Some people just need to grow up, I think. Driving people out of the game with childish *****ing and offensive PMs is about as low as you can get.

Shame on them.

I hope Unorthodox reports the offensive PM's to the admins so the bastards responsible can get banned from the site. That would do us all a favour.

I have spoken to Unorthodox in the GoW forum.

He got the same PM's in the SPDG, and I guess he didnt want to have to deal with it all over again.

He doesnt plan on reporting the PM's, so the pathetic little leaches are safe.

It's just a pity that the gutless knobs who use PM's in this way, have followed us into the ISPTW game.

Just to put a different spin on all of this...

I have received angry PMs on occasion while participating in the SPDG. I think anyone who willingly puts himself into the public forum or serves in some public role has to deal with criticism ... public or private ... on a regular basis. If you can't deal with criticism or complaints, get out of the public forum. Unortodox went one step further, he quit the game because of such criticism.

I don't give any support to people who are rude or offensive in public or private, but without seeing the PMs sent to Unortho, I have no idea what was said to him. All I know is that an overwhemling majority of us (me included) were in support of his new newspaper and if a minority of dissent is enough to make him quit, it tells me that he probably shouldn't be in a position where he will most certainly receive criticism, and he probably shouldn't be doing the newspaper. His resolve is not strong enough to ignore a few ill remarks that should have just been deleted and ignored.

Believe this or not, but the only issue I can recall from my participation in the SPDG is when I deliberately didn't follow your orders, Togas. You sure told me about it, but I can't imagine a more constructive way it could have been resolved.
