Not very likely.

The political fallout from snagging him, then lying about it pending a war with Iraq would more than wipe out any political capital the administration would gain from his capture.

Of course, one could indulge in conspiracy theories and say he was caught months ago, and that's why we have audiotapes at politically convenient times.

Or one could stick with the previous indications of his health and the capture of his bodyguards, etc., and assume he's long dead - hence no new video, from a guy who liked being on camera.

Or one could indulge in semi-conspiracy theories and figure if he was known KIA, that might be something worth concealing, to keep up support for the WoT, Patriot, etc., and at some politically convenient time, there'd be a nice news announcement that he was suddenly located and killed, or a double could be found for a couple of quick photo-ops, and we could claim his capture and detention at an unknown facility.

OBL is kind of problematic, because he's the symbol for Islamic terrorism.

heres my theory.
they nabbed OBL. the US will then extract info about the other alqaeda leaders around the world. Pooya, deupty of a radical muslim group which believes what OBL says, and has connections to his group, started to make noises because he wante tell the world and the alqaeda operatives that obl is taken and they should all scram and go underground. he wants to protect the cause. the us doesnt want this to happen, so they deny the report that obl is taken. news organizations are wary of reports which arnt verified by a government or institution, which is why they arnt reporting it everywhere.

On a more solid note an Egyptian man living in Pakistan was giving $27 million by the U.S. for his part in helping the allies capture Khalid Shaikh Mohammed.

Anyone want to bet why this Egyptian knew where Mohammed was hiding? Hmmm... like maybe he was in Al Qaeda and decided to turn Judas for a pile of yankee greenbacks? Still if money gets these snakes to turn on each other then money is what we should give them.

He was the al Qaeda grunt busted in Quetta when they were looking for Mohammad. Given a choice between CIA interrogation in Uzbekistan, with maybe, if you're real lucky, a trip to Gitmo somewhere in your future, or 27 mil for rolling over, what would you do?

OBL himself warned about the "impurity" within the ranks, and the lack of commitment of a lot of the low-level followers.

It seems a senior member of a Militant Islamic party is the one spotting off with this conspiracy theory that the U.S. has OBL but doesn't want the world to know until after Saddam is defeated. Why is the Middleeast/muslim world so over run with conspiracy theories? Is it due to the historic lack of reliable information? The government owned media only plays propaganda so in the absence of real information people make things up?

No way

I told you guys I was going to Afghanistan last year. I managed to get a plane ticket to Karachi. I then travelled on camelback into the mountains along the border of Pakistan/Afghanistan.

I then captured Usama Bin Ladin and transported him via a cargo ship to Los Angeles. And took a bus to Las Vegas.

He is now currently residing in my basement. I am now torturing him using Barney videos. tickling, electrical shocks, Britney Spears music, and WNBA games.
