Your favorite movies of this millenium Suffering from ads?

My favorites:

Black Hawk Down
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Signs
8 Mile

Everyone should have seen these by now. They are all excellent.

Signs is the least acclaimed of my choices, but I think it was the best. It's not really what you'd expect from the previews. It's more about faith and stuff. It's easily Shyamalan's best film; the directing is superb, and the entire cast was excellent. (There are only 6 characters that appear in more than one scene, and two of them are children. But those 6 characters were cast well.)

Any that I should go see or rent?

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist... an instant classic.
Equilibrium is great also, easily the best sci-fi flick in years.

Jag, you really thought Signs was better than 6th Sense? I thought the movie was good, the suspense and atmosphere were definately the best I've seen in a long time, but I thought the story was kind of weak. After seeing it I thought, "You know, Shyamalan is an awesome director, but he shouldn't be allowed to write the scripts anymore."

edit - for rampant spellig errors

In no particular order. The last millenium [didn't notice until too late]

2001: A Space Odyssey

- "Open the Pod Bay doors HAL!"

Apocalypse Now

- "I love the smell of napalm in the morning... It smells like...smells like... victory."

Citizen Kane

A Clockwork Orange

- "A bit of the old in-out."

Full Metal Jacket

- "How tall are you Private Snowball?" "I didn't know they could stack s**t that high!"

The Philadelphia Story
The Shawshank Redemption
Local Hero
Taxi Driver (especially the scene where De Niro takes his date to the porno movie - "lots of couples come here")

and this millenium

City of God
The Fellowship of the Ring

Shawshank Redemption without a doubt
i LOVED signs...the camera work was to die for
Top Gun

ya the signs plot wasnt great but the suspense, sound, camera work, and overall atmosphere make up for it 3 fold.

I take it you do not live in a sophisticated urban environment then?

Then get off your backside and leave the bucolic swamp you live in and make your way to civilisation. In cities people use something called "money" instead of exchanging animals so you'll need some. Just beat someone over the head with your scythe and take theirs. Make sure not to chew grass or people will stare. You don't need any new clothes since urban youth have taken up dressing like backwoods farmers, so you'll fit in. Then go to a cinema and buy a ticket to "City of God". When you emerge from the film offer a prayer to God for allowing it to be made.

It is worth a pilgrimage of a few days to see - trust me. I almost never recommend films but this one is dynamite.

PS - Leave your donkey outside as it will annoy the other patrons.

Agathon, I know that was intended to be humorous, but the ignorance and pure triteness of your statement makes me shake my head in amazement.

I challenge you to an obscure movie face off. have you seen "The Man Who Cried"?

Oh poo to you too

No I haven't seen "The Man who Cried". That wouldn't get shown in New Zealand because NZ men don't cry like all those effeminate blokes from other countries. So there...

But where do you live if City of God is not on? It must be fairly out of the way. We used to get all these sorts of movies in the cow town I used to live in.
