Rules state no alliances, but apparently that does not preclude a coalition of the willing (3 civs) battling one struggling civ, sneak attacks to prevent a player capturing a third party's empty city, armies fortified adjacent to the city of a friendly civ to attempt to prevent successful attacks on the city (they did not know I had sent other units by a detour to destroy the city from the other side though)
Is this normal for no alliances?

The Indians with an totally unprovoked sneak attack whose sole purpose was to prevent the capture of a Russian city which was empty by myself and subsequently fortifying an army on a forested river square within the city radius of an Russian city with the sole purpose of preventing me attacking the Russian city I think constitutes the tactics appropiate for an alliance only (this army was an veteran archer initially positioned there when my best attacking tech was horseriding)
Winz, the third enemy has done nothing against the normal rules for a game so I will not include him in the alliance accusations, but the actions of the Indians are not appropiate for the special rules agreed to for this game

Well, this is a grey area as Deity pointed out, and I think that at that particular moment Prometheus was subbing for me, but I can assure you that, in general, The Russians (myself) and the Indians have not discussed attacking tactics, troop movements or anything that would be commonly discussed under an alliance, as alliances are not allowed in this game.
If the Indians are acting in their own self-interest though, without collaboration with me, I don't think that that would be deemed illegal.
I guess we need a global forum within which to discuss these matters. I know, lets call it the United Nations.

I haven't been paying attention to the thread or I would have responded sooner. The Russians and I are on friendly terms and I have been keeping a close eye on the warmongering Aztecs. Trev has ventured into territory I claim as my own if the Russians are edited out of the game which is what I thought would be happening. I saw an opportunity to prevent his destruction of a Russian size 1 city that appeared empty (although I'm sure another unit could have been rush built there). Since I doubt the Russians have any techs the Aztecs don't have, the only reason for securing that city was to keep the Aztecs pre-occupied with it's destruction rather than heading even further toward my lands, so my action served a dual purpose. After the city was temporarily secured, I asked the Russians to allow me to fortify on an adjacent forest river hex, he agreed, so I did. If the Russians and I were allied, Trev, I'd have more than a lone archer down there. I'm more intent on trading with people, but since you don't know how to respect borders and are distracting me from my trade, that archer won't be alone very long.
I trust the Russians will now be edited out of the game?
