The best part was when I first saw this, accompanying an article in Ilta-Sanomat, a Finnish magazine. They told about Sledge Hammer, that beloved TV character whose catchphrase this was, and then had Paavo's campaign manager saying "Yes, we feel this image fits Paavo perfectly."

Is he now going to pull out a big gun and shoot something?

It's in English because, uh, it sounds cool. Besides, most Finns who have seen Sledge Hammer know that "Luota minuun, tiedän mitä olen tekemässä" is that in English, since we have subtitles in our TV shows, not dubbing.

We only get dubbing in programmes aimed at children. I can never imagine watching a Hollywood film dubbed in Finnish. And my preference in anime is subtitles over dubbing; the fact that the characters speak in my language just ruins the experience for me.

The umlaut (ä and ö) don't take that much space (if those are what you mean), and, well, the text might be long, but I guess we're just fast readers (hence the dubbing for children).

Subtitles also develop language. I myself have caught lots of English from television. Unfortunately most of it has been American, not British.

I think subtitles are pretty good. You have to be able to read fast to enjoy the program. It gets natural, and since we have 100% reading score (everyone can read and write) it's ok. I guess it might even contribute to our good reading abilities. I learned my english from tv too, mostly. And American, not British .
All those mates, buggers, tubes and what not.. it's confusing.

And as for Paavo Lipponen.... I'd like to wrestle him, clothes on. I'd get a nice rear naked choke and not stop even if referee comes between us .
Hell freezes over before I vote for Social Democratic Party. Those people ruin our fine country! Damn commies..

Jaakko, nah, I admit that I'm not a fan of murrican cars. There are few nice ones, but I don't like big cars to begin with. Or pick up trucks, God I hate them. Almost as much as I hate Paavo 'the Giant' Lipponen, because he reminds me Andrei the Giant from the old WWF. He speaks like him too.
