Discussion about our World Map Got spare money?

Those of you who have looked carefully at the map, what are your thoughts?

My biggest surprise is that GoW has no iron. They have horses, but once the middle ages come they will not be able to build or upgrade to Riders without a source of Iron.

Our continent holds only 4 sources of iron, Neu Dem has 2, we have 2.

GoW also hasn't build their cities in the most optimized locations. Some are build on hills behind rivers, but they only have 5 cities and could easily place another 5 in the open areas around them.

GoW has wine and gems. They really should expand into old Luxia for the spices (to get their 3rd luxury) and the last grapes to get a monopoly. Neu Dem has spices, but it appears that they have no other luxury, and they are the most likely to want to quickly seize a 2nd & 3rd lux site for that purpose alone. That could mean the grapes in old Luxia and the Gems in Sierra Brilliantes ... or that could mean a boatload of Arabs inside our contry.

There is only one source of Ivory in all of our continent and likely in all of the world and it sits within our fronteer. We also can get control of all of the silks if we build a city north of Madrid. This could result in us having a monopoly on 2 luxuries. Not bad.

If Neu Dem expanded into Old Luxia and the north valley, and we expanded into our full fronteer Neu Dem would have more land. Remember this. They no longer "need" additional room. All they really want at this point are additional luxuries. Also note the rapid pace in which they're filling their land AND their 3 tile build pattern (with the exception of Thordoba).

Please post your observations here and let's discuss what we have learned from the new World Map.

It's fairy obvious that GoW and ND are both making a point to build cities on hills. This will make it more difficult (a bit) for either side to attack one another. However. I would not be suprised if ND decides to attack GoW with Ansars not long after they get them considering that GoW has no iron. Why GoW instead of us? Besides the iron issue, in order for ND to attack us, they would either have to go through jungle, or unload them off of boats. Both of these options expose these weaker defense units to counterattack.

GoW and ourselves already have a practical monopoly on wines and silks, respectively. Anyone gaining control of the two only remaining deposits still out there wouldn't use them for trade.

As for protecting our southern luxuries from greedy hands though, you'd better start convincing some people that Settlers are actually a useful investment and that there is such thing as the Big Picture.

We and GoW need to get Harbors built. THen we need to work on getting that second Iron connected and Trade it with them. But we will need time to do those things.

We need to Impress on GoW that the research and tradeing need to be slowed sufficiently for these things to happen in time for us to do this. It's their (and Untimately, our) survival that is at stake here.

Put an end to popups!

Well, it seems that they are preparing for a nasty bit of a scrap, eh? It's like the old story of the great Madridian sea captain and the giant squid. Both are preparing themselves for battle, and both are scared to death of each other.

It seems to me that the Neu Demogypticans, those silly buggers, regard those Warmongers as far more of a threat than us. This is probably for good reason. We've never entered into a war, but they've destroyed an empire. We should be building our forces strong and preparing for the inevitable show-down before it is too late. I do think that they are aiming to conquer all of us, but I think that the Warmongers might be better for them to destroy now than later, when they have perfected bows, and are beyond mere iron weapons.

We are in danger, but I think that the Warmongers and the Neu Demogypticans are preparing their own defensive lines against each other, and I do believe that the conflict will be soon. We must be prepared to take advantage here. This may be our only opportunity, and it would be a golden one.

Did you notice that Vox and Lego don't have horses (From the F4 screen) ?

We have two iron and horses sources, so, with those ivory and silks monopolies, we can become a very strong commercial civ !!

We MUST settle those vital sites (ivory, iron, horses) quickly.

That is why I generally favor sites down the coast from Barcelona intially, proceeding inland toward the ivory plains. As opposed to city sites just south of Pamplona.

The north part of the continent is really as small as they claimed it was. But right now things have changed a bit. I cannot believe GoW is giving up all this land. Probably they feel that the arabs are too much powerful? (OOC: they have iron).

I agree with señor Tamali. We should build a Harbour to commerce with this warmongers and give them a part of our iron in exchange for some nice goodies. Otherwise they will fall to ND sooner or later.

I also agree that now we should consider founding a city near the silks in the jungle to get the monopoly.

Got spare money?

But If ND declares war to GoW, they mover their troops to GoW. In the meanwhile we occupy their cities with our armies and the Arabs are defeated. Fernand Calamari has stated that too. Why are we still doubting? If we do it fast, the warmongers wont be defeated before we have occupied all ND cities. They'll be very thankful to us and we'll gave a gracious ally. What do we want more?

We must focus on REX'ing! Our military will soon be strong enough to repel the enemy if they come, but we should not build to attack. We have no need anymore.
Let us be peaceful and prosperous and live long.
Let not the train of war gain so much momentum that it is unstoppable. ND might be evil and all, but we cant let one son-of-a-Bush change our priorities too much.
Let us focus on building more cities!

LzPrst. Please let the political comments for other forums...

And about REXing: We have already changed our dinamic to a less military production, more expansion driven economy. Let's not fall too much into the REX side, or all the colective effort did in the last years to build an army that can guarantee peace in Spain would be wasted.

What if we made it topically Spanish and said “son-of-an-Aznar” instead? (Who’s the PSOE leader now for the topically Spanish riposte?)

You must mean Pamplona.

IMHO, this foot-shuffling and sitting around with your thumb up your ass thinking, "Maybe we'll REX later... if it isn't too dangerous" is the single biggest reason we are going to lose this game.
