Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The point is, that if you need to move your horse 8 squares, in 2 x 2 it gets there in 2 turns, in 1 x 1 it gets there in 4 turns. There is more lag during the player turn switch and this additional time makes it take much longer to play. Also, getting more done on a turn makes you look forward your turn all the more. Personally, I love long turns by my opposition, I can sort cards, micromanage my citys, check demos, surf the web ect.

THE FOLLOWING IS A STRATE TOTALLY OFF TOPIC EDITORIAL (I deserve one)

The war with Iraq is not Americas 1st pre-emptive war against terrorism.
In 1812, Thomas Jefferson made the decision that the only way to stop the terrorism was to stop thier supplies. So the decision was made to throw the English off the North American cont via an invasion and annexing of Canada. The English were more then happy to supply the terrorists of the day, the Indians who, for what ever reason were slaughtering men women and children in the Miami and Miss. river valleys.
The comparision is uncanny.
Off course, we lost that war and if it were not for Admiral perry who intercepted the british invasion fleet and destroyed it before it could land a force that would have moved and cut the road from Toledo to British occupied Detriot and intercepted a Kentucky army that was moving to relieve Monroe and investigate the masacre at The River Raisin and move on to Recapture Detriot. If this would have happened , Michigan would be a Canadian provence today.
Washington was also burned to the ground and The US government went fleeing inland.

Back on topic:

Sure 1x1x is slower, but it is more strategic IMO. 2x2x you have more tactical choices. Choices are good, they make the game deep; I have always felt that the argument between 1x and 2x ers (though the 1x ers don't tend to belittle the preference of the 2x ers quite as much) comes down to whether you want to highlight the tactical element, or the strategic element.

Uhhhh... no, you don't deserve one

The off topic forum is the place for political posting...
And if you post stuff like that in on topic forums, you will get restricted...

That has nothing to do with CIV II MP. It belongs in the OT.

And this is the Civ II MP forum...
So please post future "Historical Facts" in the OTF where they belong...

With the upcoming war, we are clamping down hard on people who post off topic in the on topic forums.

I would hate to see you turned into a "poster boy" and be restricted to show how serious we are about this.

Okay, back on-topic.

I'm pretty much stuck with 1x1x deity because that is what the Aussies play.

But I do enjoy playing 2x1x with the Rah group. I'm very struck by what a different game it is.

So true...

But then again... all the settings are different games.

When I play 2x2x... the difference is also astounding... especially when a horse moves 12 spaces down a river...
And those cats land from a ship, and ATTACK on the same turn... really different.

I played so much 1x1x in SP mode... it just doesn't seem the same. When in SP mode, the turns go quick, and things happen quickly... when playing MP, the wait between turns just adds to the feeling of the slow build.

To each their own... I'm just glad there are tons of settings so people can play the game in a fashion that they like...

Increase Your PM Length

I've played a couple of 2x2x at the zone - its freaky. Games can finish very quickly if they home in on your cap.

Otoh I like the idea of units being able to move more during a turn so maybe I should try it more.

The only reputable group that plays it that I know of is Sloww's tribal group.

Very nice guy Sloww - oops, got a bit off topic there, sorry

I don't mind 2x1x. I reckon all new Aussie games should be 2x1x because we have so many 1x1x games underway that Horse referred to. Curiously, that last new game we strarted I suggest be 2x1x but Horse set it up as 1x1x

I'll resist the temptation to troll

No offence meant - Sloww's group is just the only one I knew of.

Put an end to popups!

The key seems to be "What you enjoy", because most of us do play for the fun and entertainment of it

Yep, a couple of years ago I was asked to sub for a player that had just dropped in a 2x2x king game. I was bored so I said sure. It was quickly obvioius why the person I was subbing for had dropped. But I figured I'd spend a little energy and try to resurrect the civ. I didn't have any other civs cities showing on my map, it showed that I had met one other person but we weren't at war. With only two cities close together, I switched production over to settlers (the game was quite advanced for him to only have two ciites and nothing else)

Three turns in 8 ELEs came out of the blue. Game Over.
Sure glad they asked me to sub.

great game yesterday: 4-way ladder, and my cap was killed by a chariot in 3600; thats the way of 2x2x king. it never happens in 1x1x deity; i dont know, why people enjoy such hut-hopping and coming up with tons of units in early ages.

i wonder why nobody writes about this short games.
