That's also true for Mozilla 1.3 alpha, that I am using right now beside Netscape 4.78. Well with the next start of Mozilla I upgrade to Mozilla 1.3.

How's Mozilla? I've never tried it, only read about the old one from the stone age of Internet(and a few notices here and there regarding the new one).

OK I restarted Mozilla now v. 1.3 without the alpha label and as I tried to display one of the images saved in an attachment, and Mozilla tried to download the file:

minimap16.jpg.jpeg

Well actual I expect to see the image like in Netscape 4.78, so waiting for Mozilla 1.4. And on the otherhand the extension of that file .jpg and not .jpeg.

It seems that Mozilla gets the other extensions right. But this behaviour in case of *.jpg files is still wrong. I am still shure that Mozilla 1.1 did it right. It is such an annoyance to find out everytime you can't viev an image, just because Mozilla wants to download it as a file.

By the way I disabled showing images in the forum.

Well, just copied the address bar from Mozilla 1.3 to Micro$oft Intenet Eplorer. And it was slow in coparision to Mozilla 1.3. And even after filling the cache of M$ ¤I, it seems still to be a litle bit slower.

At least to run Mozilla I don't need to buy an overprized OS with it.

Isn't Netscape Communicator 4.78 a bit old? Besides, it has crappy support for CSS.

I've got Mozilla 1.3a...so it didn't get this right? Well, I haven't noticed...no, wait, I noticed the other day...

So I'll let the Apolyton Mozilla Testing Team see if there's any other problems before I upgrade.

So do you have an alternative, that gets all the extensions right, does the size of some fields here in the forum right and has an uninstall option?

I knew it that someone would tell me that. OK my last post was done with Opera 6.something. So I had to download Opera 7.03 to check if the stuff that is right for Opera 6.XX is also right for Opera 7.03. Well and it looks like a pretty good browser without the problems of Opera 6.XX. Only the amount of page you can see is smaller then in Mozilla. Well let's try Opera at the next turn chat and see if it is crashy like the last version.

I don't think it's bug-free (lets not get into all the theories and such), but it is very stable, even on Windows.

One reason I use it because I don't have to switch browsers across various platforms. <alt><t> always opens a new tab. It also has the best support for standards such as CSS, XML, and PNG.

Maybe one day they'll also figure out how to properly deal with the selection of text in the address-field in the browser.

It's inconsistent with the rest of Windows, and it's a tiny annoying quirk which makes Mozilla annoying to use.

In Windows, you double click to select the entire string. In Mozilla, when you doubleclick, it selects a substring (the like if you doubleclick in the middle of www.mozilla.org, it selects Mozilla).

I installed Opera 7.01, and it was great and actually a bit better than IE, but still I tend to go back to IE for some reason. Don't know exactly why though... Must be something with what I'm used to use...

I feel the same, actually... I've liked Opera for a while, but almost exclusively used IE... Now I've got Opera7 and I' really liking it.
I also finally found out today that the UNIX systems at university finally have an alternative for the craptastic Netscape 4.7... Mozilla (and I saw someone using Opera too) which also looked much better than the last time I saw it.

Well Konqueror is as far as I know a Linux only browser and comes with KDE2/3. In comparision to Mozilla it lacks of some fetures, as far as I know, most improtant and I encountered is that if you use it on 'Poly and you want to reply, the line warp in the reply box is beyond the right edge of it. So if you write you don't see the beginning of the line if you reply is longer then the line that is displayed. Well there is also something else missing that you have in Opera and Mozilla, but I didn't need it and therefore don't know about it.

Well, there are different UNIX systems at universities. At my unversity there are two many UNIX based OS. On the one hand Linux with KDE2 as user interface and on the other hand a Sun Solaris OS. So far on Sun Solaris I only found Netscape 4.78. On Linux there I found everything you need. So if Mozilla and Opera are available at your univerity, just open a shell (also known as terminal window) and enter mozilla or opera and if available Mozilla or Opera pop up.
