I checked out the site, and thought it was great! A little too inflexible for advanced alpha.txt creators such as myself, but for those who don't want to muck around with the actual alpha.txt, who want to understand all the flurry of numbers and such in alpha.txt, this is a fantastic program!!
And if I hadn't of checked back in the apolyton archives, I would have never checked out your web site or found this program. Have you considered posting your editor on the Apolyton or SidGames file section. It's the only way you'll get your editor out there to the larger body of SMAC players. Because I beleive if you do it will really help a lot of novice to intermediate gamers experiment with SMAC game creation.
A few things to add to it though: if one adds extra lines of comments in the file it screws up all the numbers. Configure the editor to ignore comments much as SMAC does and things will be fine. Also adding a notes area for each section to be encoded as comments in the alpha.txt file would be a help in that area as well.
For further customization, allow users to change names and required techs for chassis, weapon & armor types if they want to. That would be another advanced creator function.
And if you really want to tackle the motherlode, include a section that maps out the entire tech tree, allowing users to create new techs and rearrange the tech tree with a GUI interface. I tried, but my time and knowledge of visual basic is limited, my knowledge of C++ nonexistent. Maybe that is for another editor altogether. In the mean time I'll stick to producing my 'dream' mod, soon to come out called SNAX 1.0.

I am also making a alpha.txt editor called AlphaEditor. It is different to CentauriEd, but allows more options, (or will!) and I big thing I think that was missing in CentauriEd, it has the default values.

Ok, I found the page where it WAS but now I'm getting a 404... and I had to use a SEARCH ENGINE to find this... I hate when people don't like right or something...

At last your here - waiting for this forever
Please continue on with this - but you should include all the default vaults, and make the option of adding new units (I presum youo have rad AlexanderIII's post on doing this?)
Its a rally nice program
BTW - your site should have a non-flash version for people like my with slow ISP's

Well, I'll post the old version of the program (from last year) in a couple of days and take a poll here, I'm still waiting for the new version of the UI library that I used to program it in. Where's Alexander's post on this?
Well, actually I made the site Flashed because it does take less space, and I only used flash in 2 main pages, but we'll see (I can promise you that if I go with non-Flash, it will be pretty damn ugly...)

it's called CentuariED as the topic of the thread suggests, so click on the "Centauri" link on the main page...

yap, it's redirecting you to my site on Fortunecity, and you have to click on the Centauri Link to get the editor, the main page is made with Flash, so you might wanna get a plug-in.
here's the direct link: http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscrap...7/TGL3/smac.htm
but bookmark the main page, because this one might move...
