Blair will adress the nation "in midnight". I have no idea whether it's midnight British time or Israeli time(taken from an Israeli news site)

From here:
quote: CHAMCHAMAL, Iraq, March 20 (Reuters) - The northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk is encircled and heavily defended by Saddam Hussein's forces, his Kurdish foes on the frontline near the key oil hub said on Thursday...
..."It looks like they are getting their equipment ready in order to be able to run," said Ibrahim Khursheed, in charge of the forward checkpoint outside Chamchamal from where Iraqi soldiers and trucks were clearly visible.
"We have been watching what they are doing, and believe that they have now mined the road as well as either side of the road," said a fighter under his command. "This is a defensive measure which suggests that they are going to run away."...
...Kurdish groups have said they would refrain from sending fighters to Kirkuk, which they regard as an integral part of a future federal region of Iraqi Kurds.
Turkey opposes Kurdish intervention in any battle for Kirkuk, saying its ethnic kin also have a right to the city and fearing that control over huge oilfields nearby could embolden its own restive Kurd minority.
"We have no plans to go to Kirkuk ourselves -- we have no orders from our superiors to do so," said Jasim, the local head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) party which controls the east of Kurd-controlled northern Iraq where Chamchamal is...
...In the nearby city of Sulaimaniya, over 100 fighters were moving eastward, possibly to confront the radical Muslim Ansar al-Islam group holding out near the Iranian border which Washington says has links with the al Qaeda terror network. |

Which is quite odd, since there are reports about fires in Kirkuk.

Washington-AP -- It's too soon to say whether Saddam Hussein and his sons got caught up in the U-S missile attack.
But sources say U-S intelligence has picked up early signs that the Iraqi leadership might be incapacitated or unable to communicate with military field commanders.
Early intelligence reports suggest Iraq's leadership is not organizing any coordinated response to the U-S attack. That suggests leadership is in chaos or cut off from the military,
One official says military officials "believe it is significant" that there is a lack of coordination and meaningful resistance to the pre-dawn missile strike.
Sources say intelligence suspects Saddam's sons may have been with him during the strike on a complex where Iraqi leaders may have been sleeping. |
