And Frustrated Poet wants to be the ambassador to Apolyton

oh, how cute

---
But officially they have to vote in members now and are doing a poll So Mark and FP aren't in yet.

Mark, a person who I would like to mention is one of the most avid AC players and a person who plays many games, could be a force to contend with. He's on the internet a lot and involved a lot.

If he's as good in Civ as he is in AC, he could be a problem.

And I'm assuming you already know all about Frustrated Poet

I'm on this team already ... but now I want to be the ambassador to CGN.

I would have preferred to join them originally - a smaller team might have been nice, and I like those guys over there - but I had already seen this private forum before I realised they were playing, so it was too late to change (I didn't want to "do a Ralph" ).

Due to an illness Mark was been away from the 'net for several months.
He says he's playing Civ3 again, but hasn't bought PTW yet. I suspect he's a good player, though.

Dauphin Sagace (Sagacious Dolphin/Big Crunch on Apolyton) is probably a good player, although I have no personal knowledge of this yet. I've just started a PBEM game with him so maybe I can learn a bit about his style. He's a smart guy who probably knows more about Civ than he advertises.

Conqueror - A Gathering Storm member, although he's no longer active with us. He's a nice guy and a decent player. Kicked my ass in a PBEM game with an early Archer rush. Ouch!

Full PM-box? Change here!

note: CGN has a very active PBEM SMAC scene, but has much lower Civ3 activity. Those of their members who haven't played much PTW will nevertheless be very experienced in playing SMAC against human opponents.
The two games aren't identical, of course, but there should be good knowledge-transfer between the two games, particularly when it comes to diplomatic issues

When did they say that?

I certainly can't see their private forum in the CGN Forum Index, so I think that they either know I'm playing for Apolyton or they rejected me in a vote.

Becuase, oh no, Jimmytrick was chased out of the Democracy game by the evil and ruthless orange. Wasn't he? Oh yes he was...

Now there is a name I recognise. I had a PBEM with Kidthings.

I was Egypt & he was China

Here is what is looked like in 1225bc

He had spent most of the game harassing me with warriors, demands, and invading my cultural borders.

This is what it looked like 125years later

There I am with a stack of war chariots, eyeball to eyeball with an ailing Mao

Resulting in

I think he will treat Apolyton members with a little more respect next time. A big can of whoop ass does do wonders

Here is some info ..... I asked a few questions after he was eliminated from the game...

quote:

Me > You were planning on attacking me right ??

Him > Actually no. I'm generally a defensive player and a builder.

Me > Xinjian was your invasion city right ??

Him > Again no. My strategy was I thought I could take the most territory and be the strongest later in the game.

Me > When were you planning to do it ?

Him > I thought about an attack, but I generally don't unless I think I have good odds. You were in your UU so I didn't like the odds. So I would have waited until much later in the game.

Me > You stepped up your agressive playstyle, and posted warriors around & inside my cultural borders. I was forced to change my building to offensive units. I was planning on using swords, but I did not have any iron.

Him > Well, I didn't consider it aggressive, rather defensive. I only had weak units on your border for reconnaisance. I knew sooner or later you would attack. I was hoping to get an early warning. Surely you were not afraid of them. I did want you to be a little concerned so you could just expand without building military units and to make it more difficult for you to focus on defeating the Americans. It seems as though you took it as more of
a threat then I expected.

The funniest quote is him claiming he is "a defensive player and a builder".....Sure, thats why he chose the Chinese as his civ

The argument they had with jimmytrick was far more bitter and angry than people here had with Sir Ralph or Unorthodox.

However, that's all ancient history now. Jimmytrick had been banned from CGN - he's allowed back now, but hasn't yet returned. I don't expect him to.

Jimmy is an experienced Civver, but given his highly volatile nature I can't help thinking that the CGN team is stronger without him.

Interesting exchange between me and Provost Harrision at CGN:

note: the thread was about CGN regulars being less active at Apolyton recently
quote:

Provost Harrison: "I am involved in the democracy game here...apolyton don't seem to be doing too well"

FrustratedPoet: "What gives you that impression?"

Provost Harrision: "Well, the fact that they think they are playing a one-city challenge"

FrustratedPoet: "Yeah, alright mate .... whatever you say"

It seems that CGN think that because our score is a bit low that we only have one city.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Firaxis has a lower score, but it looks as if they just built two settler's back to back (capitol is now size 1.) Ask him if he has a low opinion of them? He should know score doesn't accurately reflect the power of a nation. It doesn't account for unit numbers or type nor techologies learned. The scoring system should be changed by Firaxis, I frankly don't like the way it is.
