	Military strategy Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

I open this thread to discuss all matters regarding troops positions, garrisons, attack or defense plans, defense points, etc.

I would that mainly señores ThePlagueRat and LzPrst give here their thoughts about these questions. Naturally all the clan leaders are invited to participate.

To open these discussions I have a question about where to locate our swordmen and Horsemen and why.

I would like to see us maintain sentries in the north and watchers along both our eastern and western shorelines for galleys from other civs.

Our interior barb hunting should be done with horsemen, and eventually our sentries in the north should be horsemen, sending our warriors back to be upgraded into swords.

I would like to see us station 4 swords in Cow Valley soon ... with the remaining group staying in Madrid.

On this topic, we need to seriously consider asking that ND's scout vacate the mountain east of Saragossa so that we can put a sentry there. I think we could make it a polite and honest request of them even though they are still just spying on us from a new, possibly better location.

Have Mad Exp scout out the entire eastern coastline, as we still have undiscovered tiles. Then have him upgraded in madrid.

We would need another warrior to still act as an east-coast sentry as well.

I mostly agree with your ideas.

But as already said, our army need more Swordmen and Horsemen. Since we are currently in a REX point of view, I understand that Madrid will begin to build a settler and maybe a worker after the current Horseman.

But after that I demand that Madrid and Saragossa begin to build more military units. Our land would be large and we need fortified points in all the corners of our country ready to act if needed (Vox invasion for exemple).

I'm not sure that all our warriors should be upgraded to Sword. I think only the veterans are ok for that. The others can continue to serve as patroling units.

That is my take on military strategy. Been over a thousand years since I looked at a save, so I think that before I can offer anything better than that I should take the time and do my homework first. It is still my opinion that we will have to take out ND and GoW sooner rather than later if we are to have a chance of winning this game.

I agree; we could also send the standard warriors against the barbarians for promotion, and leave our horses on the roadnet where they are most efficient.

Señor Astronicus please let me finish the barracks in Zaragosa first. They are sitting on the steps of my estate now and it looks like we're a low developed country while we aren't. Let me finish the barracks first plese so that these brave men have a place to train, rest and to store their swords and spears.

Perhaps we should belay any plans of attacking our neighbours and prepare to join them against Vox. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail than those in the open forum wondering about declarations of war (Ghengis!!!!!), but we should be prepared to oppose this external threat. A war with them would certainly meant that we get opportunities to improve troop experience as a coalition, rather than attacking our neighbours. If we were to be engaged in a war soonish, these are what I think of the two options.

War with Vox
Pros:
-Likely coalition with ND and GoW, leading to a far stronger position than if we took either of our neighbours on.
-Opportunity to test troops in battle whilst not risking cities/lands to the same degree we would if involved in a war with ND or GoW
-Ability to only partially militarise; we can keep on expanding as we build units in only come cities
-Improved cooperation with ND and GoW
-If a coalition is not successful, we have no immediate danger from Vox
-Get to see ND and GoW's army strengths

Cons:
-Little to gain, likely no territory to gain
-Our neighbours will militarise as well, making future wars against them harder (this may be happening already anyway)
-They can continue growing and expanding as we can
-Why Vox? They aren't threatening OUR lands

War with ND or GoW
Pros:
-Lots of territory to gain, where it will be productive for us
-Potential to reduce the threat posed by either of them and dominate our continent

Cons:
-Need to heavily militarise; no more growth possible
-Possibility of loss of units, cities and time relative to other civs
- Distrust from other civs due to attacking neighbours
-Vox may seize the opportuinity to establish themselves on Bob
-ND and GoW can strike in many more places than Vox could
-Possibility of coalition signed AGAINST us

True the advantages to a war within our continent are potentially great, but are we ready for it? I think that a stand-off with Vox, whilst avoidable, would be more to our advantage. We can learn more of those we share the continent with before committing to attacking them. And diplomatically, isn't it more favourable to be seen as repelling an outside invader opposed by many than to attack internally where there is no backup likely?

I agree with Senor Where It's At on the Voxian war, though I also think that more settlers and workers should be, at the same time, be sent for colonization of those luxuries. We must enter into the coalition, therefore avoiding the resentments of the Chinese and the Arabs. However, we needn't send too many troops to destroy the Voxian invaders.

Don't worry, be happy Of course, the completion of the Saragossa barracks was intended before your city starts producing military units.

I agree, I've ordered the Bulgar warriors to go to the war area.

I've been considering to send there the next Madrid Horseman too, but I wonder if it will not be to late to watch something. I'd prefer instead to let the Horseman in the lake area to survey possible ND military movements or settlers.

Madrid Expedition will continue to watch the eastern coast.

As for Madrid queue, I'm convinced that the best item to build next would be a settler. Let Saragossa finish its barracks and start building military units.

We now have Barb Horsemen running around. I have 1 question, why have the 2 warriors that are in the SW territories not been moved to a barracks site to be upgraded. They would almost be at Saragosa if they had started off as soon as we got the Iron connected.

As it is, they will take several turns to get to a city with a barracks, they NEED to be moving towards one NOW!!

The question is : it's worth to upgrade regular or conscript warriors ? My opinion is that several of those warriors must continue to watch vital areas. It's the case for Bulgar (east coast), Feocalvos (ND border) and GouObs (Ivory site).

Barcelona and Madrid Exp warriors already are on the path to Madrid.

They can upgrade just as easily (or as hard) if they are sword as they are Warriors. BUT they will survive much better in the wilderness, against Barb Horses and when fighting Fort'ed Barb Warriors on mountains and hills.

Plus, we will have had them already upgraded and ready if there is a problem with ND. The money will have been spent, so we won't need to keep it for that (or forget that we need it).
