With the nearly universal stream of crud that's come out of Hollywood this past year I find it difficult to get excited about the base subject.

From the best picture category I've seen only LOTR2, and would not consider subjecting myself to any of the other pictures besides, perhaps, The Pianist. LOTR2 was not the stuff that Oscars are made of, either...

And given the spate of Holocaust and WWII movies over the last decade I wonder if The Pianist would be worth my time, or if I would (as I suspect) unfairly dismiss it as tripe simply because of the "Schindler's List" effect...

"The Pianist" is nothing like "Schindler's List". In fact the few negative reviews it has gotten are based on people calling it "emotionally distant".

I highly recommmend the film. I think it is the best film mad about the Holocaust to date.

That's my point: I'd be too busy comparing it to SL to judge it on its own merits.

I might try it, but I'm worried about my reaction to it.

I was rooting for Gangs of New York, but I knew it was a long shot. I just can't see how a film that violent could win any awards.

It is sad that Scorcese may never win an award.

And don't get me started on Polanski. What that guy did was terrible. But I guess it doesn't affect his filmaking. Perhaps raping young girls improves one's artistic vision.

Michael Moore is very popular in Sweden. I also like him, even though I don't share all his opinions. Humourous documentary TV is a much better way to show your point than doing like the morons who throw rocks at the police or thrash McDonalds restaurants.

Godfather, Godfather 2, Chinatown, Ben Hur - for there day were all very violent.

I saw all the best picture nominees & wasn't surprised by the results at all. In fact, this is the first time in about 20 years that I can't take issue with any of the choices.

You know, the Oscars are pretty boring. I'm not a porn fan but I'd much rather see the Porn awards televised for two reasons.

1) It would be a scream.

2) You get a better class of people at the porno awards show.
