Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

I can't play any game multiple times back to back once I'm comfortable with its mechanics so I find it hard to answer. I'm currently playing SimCity4 again so that MoO3 is fresh when the first patch comes out. If GalCiv makes it to the UK first then that may take precedence for a couple of weeks. Its not disappearing from my hard drive for a long long time to come.

How long do you usually spend on a game?
If you've played the thing for three weeks @ ~ a couple hours per day then you've probably gotten your moneys worth even if you never touch it again ...

My, you have very low expectations!!!!

From a TBS, I expect much higher replayability.
Let's say, below a YEAR, average 10hrs per week being very conservative, I would say that the TBS was not first rank, that there was something unsatisfactory with it.

Even CivIII, which I definitely disliked, I played 2 or 3 months before finally shelving it (there might not be a question of how much time I accumulated against the money I spent, but *regretting* having wasted so much time in giving it a chance - DISCLAIMER: I *know* this is just my personal opinion! Don't want to start yet another debate on CivIII, but exactly because it's *my* opinion, I have the right to express or quote it when I think it's useful for the current issue )

A TBS which doesn't URGE me to play it at least a bit everyday after only 3 weeks I got it, I would rank it as an utter failure, a fiasco, my money in the sink.

Increase Your PM Length

Three weeks at a couple of hours per day compares very favorably as entertainment, IMO.

Say that's about 40 hours of playing for €/$ 40.00 That's good against 2 hours of entertainment in the cinema for €/$ 7.00-15.00.

Even a bad TBS gives you good VFM (Value for Money)

The problens Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The thing is, on some time the game get's "create a fleet, invade, conquest, ground combat, next planet, next system" the senate helped to get the game less boring, but i loss a tactical ground combat, simplifiqued fleet and ground combat forces build, select thenumber of each ship unless you have to put one by one, macromangemente like Ctp2. more spy option's ( missions, level up like IG 2 ), more realistic Diplomacy, more agressivve AI, i tryed the Coon (?) mod but didn't work, and lot of things that i forgot, if i remenber i post here.

Suffering from ads?

Jam, the VFM must be compared with the VFM of *similar* products.

I do not expect to pay cinema entertainment with the same VFM that I expect to pay PC games, nor do I expect the same VFM from adventure games (which I know from the start will have LIMITED replayability no matter how I might love them) w/r to TBS.

I have played CivI DOS till WinCiv came out. That one on and off till CivII came out. That one at least once a week until SMAC came out.

Let's say that the TBS I've enjoyed had a VFM of 1 MONTH per $. That's my parameter.
I don't care if I can only get 10min/$ with cinema. I KNOW I can't get better than 20min/$ in that field, or at most 30min/$.

While if from a TBS I get ONLY 1 or 2 days /$, I compare it with *succesful* ones (to me), and brand it "unsatisfactory in its field".

And anyway at THOSE VFM levels (cents per hour or less) the *quantity* of time becomes less and less significant, you have to measure your satisfaction in terms of *quality* (=fun).
Tons of time spent in *effort* attempting to make you like a TBS that you can't just swallow in the end, are really worth *nothing* in terms of VFM, on the contrary, the more time you spent, the worse.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I just wish i had enough free time in my life to engage in this sort of debate. I'm glad for any time I can play with any game..............makes them last longer too.

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

I see what you're saying MariOne but if there is no alternative TBS's that you could buy at the time you go looking for a new purchase you have no similar products to compare to. For any computer game I require the value for money to be superior to other common forms of leisure entertainment that I could spend my money on at that moment like renting a DvD, buying a book or going to the cinema. You can't compare it to watching TV or playing an old classic because you're clearly not in the mood to do either or you wouldn't be out shopping
