It's BS because it treats a criminal issue (the delinquent behaviour of a small minority of men) as a class issue which is to be rectified by comparative means. Men as a group somehow "owe" women as a group the right to use violence against them because of the actions of a few men. Jailing innocent men doesn't magically atone for the rapes of innocent women - that's like saying the Australians are justified in murdering New Zealand children if a NZ child murderer strikes in Australia.

If I were you, I'd just apologize the guy for doing that, but not asking him for anything back. That way he feels you're honest about being sorry, and might not press those charges.. You are honestly sorry, right?

And if he won't let it go, just tell them that you felt uncomfortable and reacted in a bad way that you are very sorry for, and you volunteer to seek help, talk to some shrinks or so, or anger managment or something like that. You might not need treatment, but it would help you to get the lowest punishment if you get one. But if you try to counter attack... I smell only trouble.

Hey, that's why people shouldn't go up and grap other people they don't know very well. Maybe you shouldn't have hit him, but the fact is, he violated your personal space after you told him no. I don't see what you did as wrong. It may have been excessive, but it seems to be as much of an impulse as anything else. If he sicks his gay Nazis on you, I'd say fight back. Start your own "pride club". protest gay rallys, etc. Just because someone is gay doesn't mean that they should be politically immune from an ass kicking. This guy overstepped his boundries and got what was coming to him.

By the way, I will say what Uber did here was horrible. What the guy did grabbing his hand was unacceptable, but he took it way too far beyond that and instigated violence without proper cause to do so. And for that he deserves to go to jail. His uni will punish him, but probably not strictly enough.

i don't think he needs to goto jail for this, i'm assuming (possibly quite wrongly) that uber has a clean record and this is the first time that anything like this has happened

it sounds like uber is an admitted bigot, but big deal, he committed simple assault, nothing more nothing less. he shouldn't recieve harsher punishment for being a bigot. he's entitled to an opinion, and he shouldn't recieve extra punishment for having one.
