Turn 87, 850 BC Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

To be edited by the leaders of the Scholia.

Status:
- Research at 60%, Feudalism in 11 turns.
- Luxuries at 10%
- ~291 gold cash, ~-5/turn.

Urgent questions:
- How many units and which do we want to relocate towards the "front".

Military:

Economy:

- Settler founds (name, please?), which starts a temple. Laborer works the grassland with shield we're mining.
- Worker 3 from Hurricane finishes road, moves onto iron mountain.
- Workers on iron mountain start road.
- Worker by Sufa finishes road, moves 7-7-7.
- Worker 8 from Cyclone finishes road, moves 7-8-8 (heading north to help improve tiles around Tempest).
- Worker 807 from Sandstorm starts road.
- New worker 2 from Tempest starts road.
- Worker 1-1-1 from Tempest starts road.
- Rearrange laborers in Cyclone and the surrounding area so Cyclone can grow next turn.
- Arashi goes back to working two flood plains.
- EotS works two flood plains, the mined fur, and the rest 1-shield, 2-food tiles (by the river ewhere practical).
- Cyclone works the irrigated game and five 2-food tiles, with the goal of having enough shields to finish its settler next turn while leaving as many bonus graslands as practical/useful for its neighbors.
- Typhoon finishes temple, starts courthouse?
- Sufa works the mined wheat by Tornado. If practical, a mined grassland with shield should be kept free for when it grows.
- Tornado works the mined wheat by Cyclone and the rest the highest-production 2-food tiles that can be made available for it. (Priority goes to Typhoon, though.)
- Sandstorm works two flood plains.
- Tempest works three flood plains if practical.

I'm amazed that you can keep track of all those orders. It can't be easy. Very impressive.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Actually, I initially accidentally left in some clutter from the previous turn losing my place where I was editing the message. I think I have it cleaned up now.

There's no way I can keep up with all of that in my head, so what I do when I play a turn is plot out the next turn before I send the current one on to ND. That way I can look at cities and see where they'll be next turn, and I can test the workers to see when they're scheduled to finish. It's easier for me to miss stuff in turns Sir Ralph plays, but even then, sometimes I'll open up my copy of the save and use it to check things out when developing turn orders. (Running the economy was a lot easier back when we just had a couple cities and a couple workers.)

Speaking of which, should we try and find some more people to help you out?

Or perhaps seperating the cities into 'clusters' (cities that share common tiles) and giving each cluster to a specific person to manage the orders for.

Providing people either a) have access to the save, or b) download regular updates of Aeson's scenario, this should be achievable.

I don't know if we're quite at this stage yet (although you're best placed to make that call), but it's something we should consider for the future.

The Cluster Managers would be given priorities such as "Maximise production in City X to produce a Wonder", or "Arrange the Laborers to set up City Y as a Settler Pump" - and the exact details would be left to them.

Thoughts on this idea? If you think it has merit I can make a seperate thread for it to focus the discussion.

Hmmm... something like the Regional Administrators back in the SPDG- this might work, if the people involved are dedicated enough, which was exactly the problem back in the SPDG.

As for the name: i think Blizzard would do fine- it's near the mountains, so that makes sense.

If we get to a stage where we have 40+ cities spread over 3 continents (which may happen eventually) we will either have to implement a scheme similar to the one I outlined above or drop well below optimum performace.
Of course, by that stage we could be so dominant that dropping below the optimum wouldn't make much difference anyway.

For the time being, I can handle things myself, although if Aeson or someone wants to start getting a copy of the save so they'll be in a better position to double-check me it wouldn't hurt. (And I especially appreciate Aeson's work in the longer-range planning department.) Really, workers are a bigger hassle than cities are at the moment, and workers aren't as amenable to region-based management schemes.

Nathan, what about using one of the spreadsheets out there to keep everything nicely ordered and organised? It could make things easier to plan a couple of turns ahead, or at least give orders for the next few turns. I agree that sometimes this need to be changed to reflect changin circumstances, but it would make it easier for SR when you're away for a couple of days.

Don't get me wrong here, you're doing a superb job, but maybe you need the extra tools to keep this up in the future.

I'd like to see us start our navy in Typhoon. Either by building a Harbor or just start pumping out reg Galleys right now. We don't really need a Harbor for food there unless we plan on building an Aquaduct there in the near future. We hit 10 shields per turn in Typhoon in our GA, and I don't think we can get up to 15 (step up from 3 to 2 turn Galleys) even with a Courthouse.

Hurricane: if you want to add 3 workers there in a few turns, why would you still need growth? It could work the mountain instead of a plains already, even if the mine hasn't finished yet that would be better.

Get a bigger avatar today!

We want to save up as much food in Hurricane as possible. The reason is that it runs a 1 food deficit to get to 30 shields per turn in our GA. For many projects, that extra shield will cut a whole turn off production.

I also think we should start a galley in Typhoon- we don't really need them to be vets, and we need some naval capabilities quick.

It would certainly be nice if GoW would agree to our proposal where they would cover some of the costs of rush-building a harbor and a galley in exchange for iron.

Btw, where do we intend to build our next city?
I would be in favor of any site that would allow us to connect the incense.

The incense doesn't help us except in score at this point. It doesn't allow us to drop back down to 0% lux rate, or drop to 10% lux rate once Hurricane is size 11. For right now it's a non-factor.

If we want to hit Vox ASAP, the northernmost border treaty city would be the best bet. Else the W desert.

But wouldn't having incense mean that we could allow our cities to grow up to size 8? (in which we would have two happy, two unhappy and four content)
If I'm correct, then if we had incense right now, we could have maintained Hurricane at size 8 without having to use the lux slider.
Or am I missing something?

Hurricane will be size 11 before we can build the next city. At size 8 with 2 luxuries and 0% luxury rate, our cities would have 2 happy, 2 content, and 4 unhappy citizens.

I just realized that by reshuffling tiles, I can get Tempest working four flood plains and growing in two turns. That seems worthwhile.

If no one objects, I'm going with Monsoon for the name of the new city.

With the new city founded, our palace cost is now up to the same cost as the Pyramids, so we can stay in stealth mode up until a couple turns before we're finished.

Hurricane has 22 food in the box right? We can switch one of the laborers to the Iron Mountain and have enough food to keep it at size 12 throughout our GA.

Can we get a screenshot of Hurricane's production box?

Nope, that's why I wanted the screenshot. Normally we'd start using the Iron in 2 turns. The extra 6 shields (might lose 1 to corruption) probably wouldn't help us make up the rest of the 19 we'd need to jump up a turn, but I'm not sure.

Double check me on the actual save please... We are getting 14-1 shields per turn right now. Using the Iron we get 17-2 per turn right? At size 11 we should be getting 19-2 shields per turn... that would put us right on if we keep at 13 per turn the next 2 turns (finish the road), then add the 3 Workers.

255 + 2(13) + 7(17) = 400
255 + 2(15) + 7(17) = 404

Wait... I had an irrigated grassland in that save. The 14-1 and 17-2 should be right. We'd be getting 20-2 at size 11 though.

255 + 2(13) + 7(18) = 407
255 + 2(15) + 7(18) = 411

Using the Iron still isn't enough to bump us up a turn.
